## Description

Aeotec SmartThings Multipurpose Sensor - Zigbee - Door/Window & Temperature Sensor, Perfect with Aeotec Smart Home Hub - desertcart.com

Review: Very easy to attach and pair - It paired flawlessly with Hubitat, though it's listed as a SmartThings brand device in Hubitat (Aeotec is the hardware manufacturer of all SmartThings brand devices). S2 (secure) mode and unsecure mode both worked, and status is reported quickly. It's on the front door which sees a lot of traffic, and the attery is barely worn downat all in the last month. The two halves don't need to be perfectly touching to detect closed state, which is helpful when your trim is slightly raised relative to the door itself.
Review: These are amazing. - My first purchase of this device was for a dishwasher, with the intention of using both the humidity/temperature and the door sensors to determine if my "dumb" dishwasher had finished it's cycle. While the humidity/temperature didn't work as I hoped (neither changed noticeably during the cycle), the door sensor worked phenomenally, even though it wasn't perfect lined up. I've been adding door/window sensors around my house, and have gone through several other sensors at my front door, where there is an uneven gap between the door and the paneling around it. Another brand sort of worked - it had to sit sideways, and then it didn't have a good enough point to stick, so it fell off frequently (triggering false alarms on my Home Assistant automations that the door was open). Enter this device. You can see by the photo that it is not only some distance apart, but also not on the same physical plane. Doesn't matter. As you can see by the second photo, it's STILL showing as closed. Not only that, it's not awkwardly protruding at the door (the other that sorta worked tipped into the doors path occasionally) and it just WORKS. If you need a door/window sensor that can stretch across gaps, THIS is the only device you want to choose.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Why the jump in price? These were $25 (sometimes $20) with samsung.**
A: The prices of most quality, IoT goods have risen across 2020 and 2021 owing to the impact of COVID upon all elements of the supply chain; wireless chips demand a far higher price than normal, else remain unavailable, and logistics and transit costs are significantly higher. Between Aeotec and Samsung, we are vastly different businesses with different models and different scale. Our model is built solely on IoT related products. On account of of not manufacturing millions of white goods per annum, we’re unable to command the same price at the time of manufacture and this is reflected in our pricing.

**Q: What is the max temperature it can withstand?**
A: My garage gets to be 100 degrees F in the summer. The temps alert me at 95 because I wanted to know. With anything electronic while it may work fine at higher temperature I would not recommend it. Electrical wiring and devices can usually withstand 140-150 degrees for under 30min with no real damage. But things get rather odd when electronics heat up over 150 for prolonged periods of time. I would say out of an abundance of caution do let let the device operate over 110 degrees F. You are just asking for trouble. Their is a lower limit to some electronics as well. Usually some where between 0 and -40 degrees F. Each product is normally tested for normal living environments so that would be between 50 to 100 degrees F (often indoor temps). Some are rated for more extreme weather but a lot of factors go into play here. Casing, quality of materials, quality of the build, plastic vs metal.

**Q: Do you need a hub for this to work or can I connect it to my echo or smart things on my phone**
A: Mine is connected to Smart things

**Q: Are these sensors waterproof ? Can they be installed outside on a gate ?**
A: Not sure if they’re actually outdoor rated but I use them outdoors and they hold up just fine in the rain, heat and cold. They are pretty much the same as the Samsung version.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Ok, for monitoring Temperature
*by L***E on December 13, 2025*

I truly love this sensor. Easy to set up and monitor. I do however have two issues, 1st, the battery life is short. Thankfully amazon batteries are reasonable. Secondly, in smartthings it shows up as two different sensors. The contact sensor, (which I’m not using) I have the sensor in my attic just to monitor yhe temperature. The icon insmartthings which is labeled as temp, shows items hasn’t updated yet. It never updates. So I leave this item in a room called Ghost. It would be nice if I didn’t have to open the contact icon to view the temperature. Otherwise this sensor is great. Just wished the battery would last longer. I’m still happy with my purchase It’s been a few years since I purchased this. The temperature works great, just have to click twice to the temp. And the sensor never updates, which tells me the manufacturer is not going to be making anymore of these. Firmware update would be nice. It should never show up as two different devices in Smartthings. Otherwise it a good sensor, very easy for Smartthings to find it on the hub network.
