Read other Reviews + Follow Tips = Easy and AWESOME Cake!
This was awesome. I followed a lot of other reviewers, which made for an awesome cake with easier assembly. I glued golf tees to the bottoms of the pieces going into the cake, using e-6000; they were very sturdy that way. I also used a spray paint and spray glitter for all the turret tops to make them lighter and take away the hastle of using fondant. I then used a Wilton decorator icing (which I had matched my paint to) and just piped on all the window and door frames, which worked out wonderfully. I bought premade sugar flowers, which looked awesome and probably saved me a few hours in prep time. Overall, following the tricks I learned from those who went before me made the overall assembly super easy and fairly quick (about 1.5hrs). My daughter loved it, and everyone at her party could NOT believe it was homemade.

Great set!
I had a great time making this castle cake, everyone was impressed, and best of all - my daughter was thrilled. After reading the other reviews and the instructions, I made a few changes to make it easier. I also moved this cake across town and it held together fine. My changes/edits/suggestions: - I made the cake smaller - used 2 9in pans for the bottom and 2 5 inch pans for the top. Because of this, I had to push the top layer to the back of the cake (instead of centered) and only use about 3/4 of the towers provided. - I used glitter spray paint to paint the cone top of the towers instead of using frosting or the butter/sprinkle method. Then I hot glued them to the towers (I needed to make a lot of the cake in advance) - The towers that were on the plate I hot glued to the plate. Those that went into the cake, I drilled holes in the bottom and put a wooden kabob stick through (I hot glued these in place to for stability). - I didn't cut out fondant flowers (super cute but who has time for that) Instead, I just used icing tubes and decorating tips to make leaves and simple flowers around the cake and towers. This cake was work (I probably put in about 1-2 hours not including making the cake) but worth it! My #1 tip is that the cake has so much going on that you don't need to get hung up on the details. It's the overall scale and look that makes it great.

Gone in 60 seconds
After spending 12-15 hours baking, freezing, frosting, chilling, cutting, piping, and praying making this cake it was just beautiful. but just 60 seconds after we sang i watched from the back of the crowd of excited parents as little hands yanked turrets, flowers, windows, cake, and frosting from the nearly 22" confection structure. In detail you must use the correct pans 6" from wilton and 10" from winware. you will use 4 Lbs of powered sugar and 2Lbs of butter/shortening for the frosting alone. Your cakes must be 2" tall each. 2.5 cups of batter for the 6" and 5.5 for the 10". Use this recipe. (( [...] )) it will make a dense cake. Necessary for this kind of cake. Making 300+ flowers is best done with the Wilton Floral Garland Cutter $8 I used liquid food coloring and mashed it in the fondant. Rolled it thin and pushed, twist, lift, eject into your cupped hand and the flower will come out slightly concave with a small dot in the center. pipe the dots on after you apply them. Pick them up with a tooth pick and press them into the piped leaves. i made my own cake boards from luan wood and applied sealer. you must insert at least 3 thin wooden dowels into center of 10" layer so the 6" layer will not collapse as you insert the turrets. gluing the plastic dowels onto the turrets with chocolate will not work. i used 3" pieces of pvc and superglue. Your turrets may not be perfectly straight but it doesn't matter. in 60 seconds it will all be over. If you try to reposition them it may not work. I drilled holes in 3/4" x 3" wood strips to wedge all the turrets in place. Made it much easier to decorate and then move around. (that was the best idea) to decorate the cone shaped tops i drilled small holes into the tips of the cones and inserted a tooth pic. this let me hold and move them around. Frost them and just have a pile of sprinkles on the table. not in a plate. then roll them in it and carefully press if needed. (another great idea) Freeze the cakes, then crumb coat, chill and frost again. Easier to handle. I did use chocolate to glue the turrets to the foil lined base of the cake. then piled more chocolate around the base after it set, hid it with frosting and leaves. If you have never piped decorations i will say leaves took me about 10 seconds to figure out. just google "wilton 352 leaf tip directions" You can make leaves of all sizes. My kid was amazed, and so was I.

Birthday Cake Castle
I made this for my niece and it turned out fantastic!!! Warning though, there is no cake pan included. However, all I did was use a round pan and cut the sides to make a hexagon shaped cake. My cake was also too short for the door so I added the cut pieces to the front and layered icing over it, then put the door on. No one could tell the difference. Whats included are all the plastic pieces (towers, door, windows, and cones to go on top of the towers. One down side is the towers do not stay in place if you are moving the cake. So either set the towers up last where the cake will not be touched, or hot glue them to the board the cake will sit on (I transported it 3 hrs away with them hot glued to a cake board and everything turned out fine). The cone topers I just added icing and dipped them in sprinkles. It took a long time to decorate with different colors and make the cake from scratch, but it was well worth it. It turned out great, everyone was amazed, and my 7 yr old niece was thrilled about having a princess cake. Priceless!

Simple and perfect
This was my first castle cake I’ve done!! This kit made it easy for me! The kit does come plain white so you can use whatever color you want! The picture below I used a crusting buttercream on the whole cake which helped hold up the pillars!! And I used buttercream to decorate around the windows and doors and the cones! I also rolled the cones in edible glitter to give it a shiney look! The only down fall was the cones don’t attach to the pillars, which made it easier to decorate but had to deliver them in a separate box and place on top of pillars once at the venue. Over all this kit made my first castle cake a lot easier! And love the way the pillars and decorations look!!

Be a rockstar baker!
After reading the other reviews I decided to write my review based on the postive AWESOME experience I had using the kit. My first piece of advice to the novice cake bakers out there, THROW OUT THE INSTRUCTIONS. Yes I said it. The second piece of advice I will offer is don't be scared by all the dowel talk. I didn't use them, and unless you cake is being eaten by the queen, you don't need to either. Here's what you need to do to get a cake that looks darn near what you see on the box. First make two 10 in (or 9 in) round cakes. Then make two 6 in round cakes. I used a rectangle cake board. I recommend icing this cake where you will serve and cut it. It doesn't need to be hauled here there and every, it will be heavy and have lots of pieces. Put a glob of icing in the center of the board and put your first 10 in round down. Ice it with your base color(ie, put icing on it). Put your 2nd layer down, ice it. Atop the now base iced 10 in round cake, put one 6in round, then ice it. Put the next 6 in round atop and ice it. Now comes the fun part. start sticking in all the little pieces, using the picture on the box as a guide. when you put the turrets down, put a nice thick glob of icing down, and stick the turret to it, and against the (still moist) icing on the cake. for the upper turrets, honestly, i just pushed them a little ways down into the cake, and they held up just fine, not drilling or doweling required. Then use your bags of colored icing to embellish the windows, turrets, trims, and yard. Bushes around the base of the castle, just like shown in the picture hide where you put the extra icing to hold the turrets in place and serve as an extra little anchor to keep them where they need to be. When you go to serve the cake, will pieces have dents and divets from the turrets, yes of course. Do people care as long as they get to put delicious cake in their mouth, NO! All that being said, this cake takes a LONG time to make. There are a ton of details and especially if you're a novice (as i was when I made this cake the first time.) it can take some patience to get it exactly how you'd want it. But the payoff is totally worth it. It is a specacular piece of art when it is done. As an aside, the year after i made this cake for my daughters first birthday, I repurposed some of the pieces and made a pop up storybook cake (using the Wilton 2 box book pan) and the 6 inch rounds. It was also amazing and dowl free :-) Hope this helps!

Best thing ever for a Mama with average baking abilities and a princess with big dreams.
This set was a Godsend! My daughter wanted a princess castle cake for her birthday this year. I couldn't find anywhere that would or could make what she wanted because of Covid-19. So I took on the challenge myself. I don't think I could have done it without this kit. It was so easy to use, I did have to hot glue the towers to the cake board to hold them securely in place. It turned out beautiful!

My 7 yr old daughter wanted a princess birthday party. I wanted to make her a castle cake. I had seen the princess castle cake on another site and decided to look on amazon.com and found it at a better price. I usually do research before I take on a new project. I read the reviews on this product on the Wilton site and realized that there was prep work that needed to be done in order to use this product successfully. The bottom of the pillars that are inserted in the cake need to have a hole drilled in them so a dowell rod can be inserted. The pillars become top heavy when the roof is put on them and they will topple without the dowell rod. Even though there is quite a bit of prep work, the stunning results and joy on my daughter's face were worth it. The kit arrived ahead of time and all was successful.

Magnifique!
