Review: Great product - one minor design issue for heavy loads - Great product and nice upgrade form the previous version. The only problem I had with this (bought for the eclipse) is the rubber cushion where the swivel head is supposed to mount slips and makes it impossible to tighten down a heavier load. The simple fix was to remove it, and that worked pretty well, but there is a tiny lip around that area that limits the amount of surface area in contact with the swivel head or camera base. I plan to file it off on mine, or look for a different "cushion" material and glue. I did slightly exceed the load capaicty with a D800 and 300mm f/4 and 1.4X converter, so this is not entirely iOptron's fault, but my gear did highlight the [only] weakness in the design. Otherwise, I couldn't be happier with the product and price.
Review: Great Star Tracker - Works great for those exposures longer than 30 seconds... I did up to 4-5 minutes on a few with good results... Just had some difficulty in getting exact alignment with the built in device. in particular if you do not have a clear line of sight to Polaris. Remember to flash or layer in your background for those longer exposures as the camera is moving.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is this all I need to attach to my tripod and camera, to track the stars? This is the actually tracker and not just a mount correct?**
A: If you hook up the camera directly, a 3/8"-16 female to 1/4"-20 male adapter is needed between the tracker and the camera/telephone lens. However the camera will only be pointing to the stars in the equatorial plane. In order for the camera to be able to point at ANY stars, you do need either a ball head or even better, an "Orion 7033 Precision Slow-Motion Adapter", mounted on the female/male adapter I mentioned above, for fine-adjustments.

**Q: Will this unit track the sun**
A: Yes, sun, moon, or stars (switch selectable).

**Q: How does this mount track certain object? Does it have a controller that can select objects from a database etc?**
A: you aim the mount at polar north or south and line up the site, using the selector switch you choose at what rate the mount moves to keep up with the earth rotation / moons orbit / sun / or 1/2 speed. You use the ball head to point the camera at the portion of sky that you are imaging, if you are lined up correctly the mount will spin your ballhead and camera at the same speed the Earth rotates keeping the image in place. As others have said, this is a great piece of gear for wide field camera with lens photography. I have used from 10mm up to 135mm on an APS-c sensor with great results.I tried a 400mm once and started seeing trails, not sure if it was the weight or a balance issue? it could also just be too much focal length for the tracking to remain accurate.

**Q: Why is this one red and mine is black?**
A: mine is red. Check with the company and make sure they make them in black. I have two different models and both are red.

### ⭐⭐⭐ - Tracks as well if not slightly better than the old one - Size - Internal Battery ...
*by C***K on March 17, 2017*

Okay, so I own the older version of this as well. I picked this up because smaller form factor and it has its own contained battery. Pros: - Tracks as well if not slightly better than the old one - Size - Internal Battery that can also run via a USB battery pack Cons - The bottom does not spin freely, I had to use my pano head so I could easily align north - The mount feels really cheap compared to the older version, like extremely cheap Honestly the bottom plate not spinning with a lock is what knocked it down two stars, it makes aligning north a pain if your tripod isn't setup to spin you physically have to turn the tripod. The tracking does work really solid once its setup properly though.
