EXPO Dry Erase markers wipe off with ease, custom labels and letter stickers work well. Sturdy build. Easy clean and can be back lit with the addition of a small LED panel or even your phone. We are using it as the main slate (we don't need fancy timecode) on our new feature film 'FRIDAY NIGHT FRIGHTS' and so far it's getting the job done. -- Only thing, we did as a precaution was to remove the nuts and put some LOCTITE or Krazy Glue on the threads before replacing to keep them in place.

This slate does it's job, I love it. It's professional and sturdy. Screws can get lost, so always be mindful but I haven't used a slate where someone hasn't lost one. It's a bit pricey but this is probably the best slate you can get on amazon so it's worth it. All slates are about this price.

I previously invested in a $12.99 slate and I couldn't get it to erase. I read reviews for this one and decided to check it out even though I didn't want to spend $40. However, I have to say that it was worth it. I've only used it for 4 days of shooting so far, but screws haven't loosened, nothing has cracked and it erases beautifully.The only issue I ran into is that it got cold outside during one of the shoots and erasing became more difficult with my thumb. I had an eraser with me though and it worked just fine.

As others have stated, the bolts are too short. But I could replace them by longer ones. I also had to shave down the front-angled-color-black-white-gray-part. This is a 0,8 mm thick plastic strip, glued to the upper and lower clap-arms. The upper one was not properly placed, so the plastic strips did hit each other before the solid black clap-arms hit each other, so the sound was not crisp and the plastic strip would eventually break.Now it is working fine, we did several days of outdoor-shooting. The normal whiteboard-pen wipes off properly without traces, black better than blue.As we could not find a better one in this price-range, I accept the need for small repairs (and I thank this customer community for the sharing) and only take off one star.

As an amateur movie maker, I thought I would treat myself to a real production slate. And I'm glad I did. This product has vivid colors, sturdy construction and works great. This is a case of a good tool inspiring me to make better quality movies by paying more attention to the details than I would if I were simply whacking two 2x4s together. If you are making movies, go ahead and treat yourself.
