Shapton Whetstone M15 Orange Medium Rough Whetstone #1000

I had other sharpening stones, and I also used 1200 grit sandpaper on glass. This has replaced all of them. High quality you would expect from traditional Japanese products.

I'm new to knife sharpening so I'm still working on getting my technique down. This stone is extremely forgiving, so when I mess up my angle it may leave a minor scratch in the stone, but it doesn't gouge. I've nessed up several times, but after a few passes, you can't even tell on the stone itself. Very durable splash and go sharpening stone and phenomenal quality.

I found that this is a good stone for beginner. It takes metal off the blade as they all do but it does it slowly and predictably. I like that I don't have to soak the stone for 30 minutes before using as it is a 'splash and go'. Follow the instruction sheet which is in Japanese? . I used the Internet to translate the simple instructions. So far, it has sharpened my knives very nicely. Most of them were finished to a mirror by stropping with a fine grit diamond paste applied to the strop. Simple and done.

Apparently Shapton has two styles of stone. One mostly for sale in Japan, and the other the United States. Anyway I was surprised to find this stone glued to the wood. It wasn't disclosed in the description. I sawed the wood, soaked it in water, then carefully chiseled the wood off. Then it took work and xylene to remove the glue. Luckily I didn't break the stone.

Shapton whetstone are one of my favorites because they sharpen fast, wear down slowly, and are splash and go.

The only problem is that all the directions are in Japanese.

This stone worked great even though I'm a complete beginner. After reading through the FAQ on their website I understood how to use and take care of the stone and now my knives have never been sharper!

シャプトンの#1000は中砥としてはかなり荒かったので安かったこちらを購入。 買ってから後悔したのは砥石台がデカくて収納に不便 他の刃の黒幕シリーズを使うのに砥石台を持っているので余計に邪魔に感じます。 常用する砥石が8個もあると少しでもコンパクトにしたいところ 研ぎ具合は中砥としての性能は高い 次は刃の黒幕の#2000遠買います。

研ぎ時間が大幅に短縮、仕事が捗ります
