Ouvrage vivement recommandรฉ

When Expedience Overules Justice
If you think that those who were responsible for some of the worst atrocities of World War Two got what they deserved then Annie Jacobsen's well-researched books will certainly shake your beliefs. As the Nazi empire crumpled, scores of American scientific experts poured into Germany to capture the top Nazi scientists and put them to work for the U.S. Men such as Werner von Braun who had designed the V-2 rockets which fell on London were transported to America to become part of NASA's space programme. The fact that thousands of concentration camp inmates had been worked to death during the building of such rockets was conveniently overlooked. Even more shocking is the revelation that America, Britain and Russia couldn't wait to get their hands on the men who had created new and deadly poison gases and biological agents to be used in warfare. Again, the Geneva Convention which forbade the use of such devices was ignored by the Allies and the Russians. Furthermore, in an attempt to placate the German citizenry at war's end and to convince them that America was a better friend than Russia, Nazis who should have stood trial for war crimes were pardoned and set free. Among those were the German officer who ordered the massacre of American troops at Malmedy in Belgium and the Nazis who set up the gassing vans in which Jews were killed by carbon monoxide exhaust fumes. This shocking and revealing book tells us in no uncertain terms that political aims will always triumph over truth and justice.
