I do not think it'd hold up to a larger dog particularly determined to destroy or get past it. My dog was determined to ride on the console next to me, though I wanted her to ride in the back for safety. I think this would have kept her in the backseat, but she won the debate, and I compromised by getting her a dog seatbelt (always hook those seatbelts to a dog's harness, never their collar!) and using this as her backrest as she rode on a pillow instead of to trap her in the backseat as I intended. I like having the pockets for some additional storage as well. Note: it was very difficult to find places to hook the bottom under the seats of my vehicle (Subaru), but they're there! You just having to get down on the floor and really look for them.
