Product will not charge! Unfortunately, I ended up damaging the on/off trying to turn on the keyboard! It is not sufficient to return to manufacture/company for refund! I am not satisfied with this result! Update from my previous review - it doesn't work out of the box. It took a day or two to get this keyboard to work, but there are still some significant issues with it. Th so these issues actually cost me a remote job so, of course, I'm not at all happy with this product.The cursor jumps around so much that it's almost impossible to write anything. Which is why I couldn't keep the remote job I had. Even now typing this I have to constantly put the cursor back to the end of the sentence where I'm typing, fix the over-typed words from when the cursor jumped, and start again, over and over. For no apparent reason the screen suddenly reduces or increases in size as well. Or suddenly part of what is typed highlights itself and the second you hit the next key deletes itself and you have to start over, again.In short, you couldn't pay me to use this keyboard, literally, as I lost the job because of how bad this thing is. There's no lag in the typing so it's not a connectivity issue. It's so poorly built I suppose that it behaves like this. Insanely stupid keyboard.Buyer beware.

The keyboard on my surface laptop was getting old and the covering was peeling. I got this keyboard to replace it. After charging it I connected it to my laptop and it works great. The keyboard is a little bouncy but once you get used to it it is fine. I like that it lights up when being used. I still don't know how to keep it lit up all the time. It goes on for a long time with a single charge but I keep it charging all the time. One of the things I don't like is that when I close my laptop for carrying the keyboard makes a bit chunky. That is the reason for the 4 star rating.

All these bluetooth Surface keyboards are sourced from the same factory: they come in the same box, have the same instructions. I returned one that was dead on arrival from a different Amazon vendor and got this one instead, actually a few dollars less. This one works! At least for now. Buying stuff like this is just another round in the Amazon no-name Chinese electronics sweepstakes: sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, but at least Amazon is good about accepting returns. This keyboard has better key action than my two genuine Microsoft keyboards that stopped working in the last year, a testament to the quality control and design prowess of the company that wants to ram Windows 11 down your throat. Given how poorly the Microsoft keyboards are made, probably also the traces inside the Surface from the keyboard contacts to the motherboard, if your Microsoft Surface keyboard fails, and it will, you are better off replacing it with one that connects via bluetooth. You'll see: that's why there's a market for these bluetooth keyboards.

Works as Bluetooth and requires charging independent of the laptop.

I confess I am not an avid reader of directions. However, after reading the steps on the item page, the tablet works great. After charging the key board, turn it on then immediately use the key combination to connect to Bluetooth. The tablet stays on, performs admirably, and I am happy with the product.
