Metric Pattern Cutting for Women's Wear

This book gives you the directions to produce any piece of clothing you may want. There are bodice blocks, trouser blocks, skirt and dress blocks as well as flat blocks (one that use no shaping with darts.) Included are also collars, sleeves and necklines. You can apply standard dimensions which are included in the beginning to follow directions for each respective block. Or, you can apply your very own measurements if they don't correspond to the standard sizes as illustrated. This is a wonderfully comprehensive book. I am a novice sewer but was very eager to understand the cutting process and the magic of transforming 2D into 3D. The joining the dots process of recreating these blocks, allows one to understand the building blocks (no pun intended) of a pattern. The layout of the book is clear as are the instructions. A lot of work went into this book.

This book is great! I can use it as a reference for making my own patterns. It tells where and what to measure for making different styles of garments. It covers a lot of information. By no means are the pattern formulas perfect though, i do think that you need some experience and intuition to know how to adjust them for better fit or adjust them for your purpose. Good for intermediate sewers. Pattern formulas only, no sewing or construction instructions. You will need enough experience do to that part yourself.

A comprehensive book and a clear explanation ..

This small book is loaded with tons of patterns and designs. I had a previous version of the book and they had made some nice additions. The flat cutting section has been expanded to include more garments that I can't wait to try.

Very informative and shows in great detail how to pattern make many different designs. May be slightly frustrating for novice pattern maker, but if you persist it becomes easier to understand.

I really love this book, it gives all the basics, the instructions are well written and easy to follow. I would defiantly consider getting the rest in the series.

This is one of my main 'go-to' reference for pattern design and adjustment to fit clothes better. The information is invaluable.

Fabulous book. Definitely for an experienced sewer. It does have a variety of styles that can be used as a basis to develop other styles.

Love this book teaches you how to draft pattern according to your measurements. But what is the most amazing is that it teaches you how to draft different blocks with different ease in them which is great especially when you are drafting different styles. The patterns are drafted using the metric system. There is also a lot of information on how to draft a variety of different designs for tops, dresses, sleeves, pants, skirts etc.

Fornisce le nozioni base per il taglio di modelli da donna. E' un ottimo ausilio anche per modificare modelli già pronti. Il libro è in inglese ma è scorrevole e molto ben comprensibile una volta imparati i vocaboli tecnici di base.

Was soll ich sagen .... es ist wirklich ein sehr gutes Buch ... ich kann es nur weiterempfehlen! Eigentlich muss ich sagen das sind sie alle, sowohl für Baby/Kinder-, Herren- und eben Frauenbekleidung. Es ist leicht verständlich, auch wenn man jetzt nicht unbedingt gut Englisch kann versteht man durch die gute Bebilderung eigentlich echt alles was das Schnitte anfertigen angeht. Man bekommt gute Infos über die einzelnen Bereiche, auf was zu achten ist, weshalb man dies und das macht usw. Es wird nicht lange um etwas kompliziert herum geredet wie es in den deutschen Büchern leider immer der Fall ist (da tu ich mich als gelernte und lange Zeit in diesem Beruf tätige Kraft schon manchmal schwer) sondern man kommt sofort auf den Punkt und erklärt wieso und weshalb!!! Was ich (Fachkraft) auch ganz ganz toll in diesen Büchern finde, ist dass einem auch das gradieren gezeigt wird, nicht nur angerissen sondern wirklich gut und verständlich gezeigt. Ich muss auch dazu sagen, dass ich echt viele viele Schnittbücher gekauft und wieder verkauft habe und es nur wenige gibt bei denen ich sagen kann "die sind sooooo gut die behalte ich" .... dieses Buch besitze ich noch immer :) Die "paar" Euro sind das Buch bei weitem Wert .... hier können sich mal gewisse deutsche "Systeme" (um keine Namen zu nennen) eine Scheibe von abschneiden. Schnitte konstruieren ist kein Hexenwerk auch wenn es einem in Deutschland immer so verkauft wird!!!

Using this book I was able to cut myself a pattern for a pair of stretch denim shorts to fit my shape. This was only my second foray into pattern cutting, the first being by adaptation of a basic pattern, (Betty Foster), but by carefully following instructions I was able to create the paper pattern, and make the garment to fit me. This book contains instructions for creating patterns for just about every conceivable womenswear garment you'd want to make, with the exception of lingerie. It includes instructions for using stretch and jersey fabrics as well as the more traditional woven fabrics. I wouldn't be without this book. I would recommend it to anyone who has experience of dressmaking and pattern adaptation but wants to branch out into creating their own patterns. It isn't so suitable if you don't have any experience as it *is* a technical book and it does look daunting on first opening because of all the detail inside. I'm currently doing some courses in simple pattern cutting and my tutor uses this book, though she does suggest trying blocks from different books as they do vary and it's important to find a block that suits your own figure if you're using it for personal garment construction. I intend to use this book over and over and over again. Your local public library or college library will probably have copies if you want to borrow before you buy!
