Everything You Need to Ace Science in One Big Fat Notebook: The Complete Middle School Study Guide

I loved reading through this book. It features an attractive, approachable learning format with concise information and fun doodles. I'm an adult, but I learned a lot, and I think most adults will learn something from this book, too. The book covers a wide range of topics, from Newton's Laws of Motion to Life Science and even outer space. My favorite chapter was about light and sound waves. Did you know that electromagnetic waves range from thousands of meters to a trillionth of a meter long? And the only visible light that humans can perceive with the naked eye ranges from 700-400 nanometers (a nanometer being a billionth of a meter). These make up the colors of the rainbow. I did find a couple of small errors. 1) The book uses "its" instead of "it's" in one sentence. 2) The book states at one point that UV waves have a smaller frequency than visible light, which isn't true. They are shorter in wavelength, so they necessarily have to have a larger frequency. These aren't a huge deal, but the fact that they're there casts slight doubt upon the accuracy of the other information in the book. But otherwise, the information seems solid, and the times I've looked up information from the book on the internet, it appears to be accurate overall.

What a great companion to a middle school homeschool/regular school curriculum. Love the kid-friendly format & how basic “notes” seem to match current state standards! Would recommend for any student who has not yet learned to take notes. This book models that skill for them & highlights key information. Also, this covers the several grades of Middle School, so you get longevity for your money! 😊

We got this book for my kid going into 6th grade. She loved it because of how colorful it was and how the topics were explained so that they made sense. There are key topics covered in the book. Highly recommend for the good price.

These "Everything You Need To Know" books are a fantastic resource for students! The text and artwork is very well done AND student user friendly. They also align with state testing standards. The illustrations are colorful and easy for students to understand and draw in their projects or interactive notebooks They are so well done that I used a grant to order a classroom set.

I purchased this book to assist me with refreshing my memory of the lessons I learned in undergraduate school. I can't forget how much I forgot, but this book help to trigger my memory by explaining basic concepts. For the price, this was a good book. I will keep the book for when I start to teach Middle School Science and I plan to give a copy to my children when they get to middle school. The only down fall to this book that it was missing some key points for the PRAXIS II. For example, in explaining Mitosis, it failed to go through each stage and did not give a good over view of Meiosis. Anyway, this was just a guide and refresher, but well worth my money. I scored a 180 on my PRAXIS and I needed a 150 to pass.

This series of books is great for your young learners! I first found these at Costco but they did not have all of them in the series as my 6th grade child asked for more so I turned to Amazon that has everything to complete my collection. Now my 6th grader asked for the geometry book which is more high school level so its great to see kids reaching for higher goals in education! I would think these could be good for anyone who home schools their children too but in my case it just helped reinforce what was taught in school.

This book provides a great overview of general science content. I have been encouraging the use of this book by adult learners who are studying to take elementary education science content exams. While this is not a specific test prep resource, the way content is organized and summarized provides a solid review of information to jog their memory and refresh their skills.

I ordered this book expecting a typical used copy, but it arrived looking absolutely brand new—no creases, no markings, not even a hint of wear. It was in such pristine condition, I had to double-check it was actually listed as “used”! My middle schooler has the full collection and was thrilled to add this one. He reads and refers to it often, and it’s quickly become one of his favourite.
