Worth the money - from a frugal shopper!
Ok, I'm sold. I have to say I was skeptical. I've only owned the "basic" $30 hairdryer you get from Walmart my whole life, and I just hit 50 years old. I've always thought it was stupid for people to spend more than that on a hairdryer just to get something else that blows air just like the cheaper ones did. But, I started reading reviews and got curious - it appeared that different hair dryers might actually do different things. I'd returned an item or two on Amazon and found that they make it pretty easy, so I decided to take the chance on this and just return it if I didn't feel it was worth the extra money. Well, I'm keeping it. In fact, I bought a second one for a friend for Christmas. I have fine hair, but a decent amount of it, so it typically dries fairly quickly anyway, but this did cut down the drying time. But for me, the selling point was more how my hair felt and looked afterwards. I regularly color my hair and have been doing so for years, so sometimes it could look a little dried out and "strawlike," especially in the back. After using this dryer, and even more so after using it for a week or so, my hair doesn't look dry or strawlike anymore, but silkier and much healthier. Then, my friend tried it. She has very long, very thick hair. She's the active, sporty mom-type that hates spending the time doing her hair and often will just pull it up because of that. She timed herself using her own regular dryer and it took her 10 min to dry her hair. The next day, she used mine - the Elchim - and timed it again and it literally cut it down by at least 50% to 4-5 min. And not only that, her hair looked like a Pantene commercial! She usually has some waves in it that she will flat-iron out, but really didn't need to after using this dryer, so her total time to do her hair was only about 5-6 minutes, which she was thrilled about - hence the Christmas present idea. Also, I have had some issues with my hair kinking about 2-3 inches out from the roots on the top of my head that I always had to flat iron out, even though I would use my hair dryer, big round brush, cold shot, etc., with my old dryer. My stylist said it was probably because as I was getting more grey strands, which are more resistant. I was amazed to see that, with this dryer, the kinks are not there - maybe just slightly here or there, but pretty much gone! I also haven't had to use my flat iron much, some days not at all, with this dryer, which helps keep my hair healthier too. And I can completely dry and style my hair in less time too. I don't know exactly how the science works, but I'm glad it does! I won't go back to the old cheap dryers anymore.

Fast Dry, Quieter than Most, Great Customer Service
My stylist swears by this brand, so I finally bit the bullet and paid for this lovely hair dryer. I knew it was a splurge, but my old hair dryer was just not doing the job and my hair was taking almost thirty minutes to dry! My hair is long, about mid-way down my back, and in about ten minutes it is now straight, with little frizz and lots of shine. And the style stays for two days! I can't believe I can actually do this myself. I can't believe I waited this long and used my cheapo hairdryer for the past decade. I really wish I had not waited so long. This is totally worth it. My dear friend came and visited me, borrowed my dryer, and promptly fell in love with it. She went home and immediately purchased the exact same model. You cannot go wrong with this dryer. EDIT: February 27, 2015 - I noticed a smell, then, whoosh! No more hot air. Cool? Yep. Hot? Nope! So, I did a little research and I found that I could mail my hairdryer to the Elchim in Florida along with a check, and they would repair it. Because mine was older than a year and I honestly didn't have a receipt, the warranty was no longer good. S'okay! For a bit of money and less than a two week wait, my dryer returned to me good as new. I doubt it was the dryer's fault that the heating element fried - I've got some wonky electrical issues going on around my house. So, I have to say that I was pleased that this company fixed my dryer so quickly and easily. Yeah, it cost a bit, but kind of like maintaining a luxury car, you have to spend a little every once in a while to keep the engine running smooth.

Luxurious and quiet.
After struggling with less expensive T-rget sourced hair dryers - one broke after 3 months and the other was so loud I needed foam ear plugs when using it - I splurged on this dryer. My professional colorist uses an Italian made dryer and it always impressed me. I debated which brand to get but this one was made for thinner hair and had all the ionic features and the shiny black and gold trim is super luxurious and sexy. Recommended if you want to treat yourself. It also dries hair exceptionally well and is quiet. Not silent like a Dyson but way quieter than most hair dryers priced under 100. It's not lightweight but it is not heavy either and feels nice in the hand. It's solid and well made.

Dryer smells and is making defecting sound. -professional stylist
I’m a profeshional hair stylist and have owned many of these. They typically are my favorite blow dryer and exceed performance or the Dyson nural and supersonic R. However mine started to make a strange noise like the first video someone posted. So I needed the dryer before work this week and ordered from Amazon as they are quick shipping. They are on sale on Elchim, so actually slightly more expensive on Amazon, depending on color. The only color that could get to me in time was white. Probably because someone returned it because it’s defective and making a buzzing sound that the first videos dryer is doing also. Mind you that reason I am replacing my old dryer. I contacted costumer service kindly explaining the situation, to maybe five different people that were having a difficult time understand the concept of purchasing a product you’re very familiar with at a luxury price tag and upon it arriving its buzzing and quacking and giving off chemical burn smell. There are two scenarios to explain this- 1. It’s a return or refurbished dryer being sold as new. 2, it was dropped in shipping and the motor fan is hitting the side of the device, there for defective broke item at fault of either delivery- Amazon or however Amazon gets it shipped to them. Either way nether of those scenarios are worth my money or time speaking to costumer service that didn’t even offer me an exchange. After suggesting to get my brand new, never used dryer fixed. They said return it before you exchange as we would be concerned you would get the same defective dryer????? Not sure how the costumer service person slipped up their words and said such an odd thing. Why would I receive the same broken dryer in an exchange? At the end of the day I have no Elchim dryer for work this week. Unreliable, defective and possibly refurbished. In addition I have a professional acount with Elchim, they can see I have never needed a repair or ever returned an item. They also haven’t responded either. Very disapointed.

Amazing dryer
I was skeptical because I've never found much difference in a hairdryer. I had a Chi previously and wasn't impressed with it (after what it cost), and it only lasted a year, so I gave up and my most recent dryer was a drugstore brand. I decided to once again try a higher end dryer and searched online. The Elchim by far had the best overall reviews so I bought it sight unseen. AMAZING DRYER. The force is very strong (2400w vs the standard 1875w) but it's directed, so your hair doesn't blow all over the place. Definitely use the channeling attachment. I dried my hair from almost soaking wet and it took very little time, more importantly my hair was silky smooth when done. Usually I dry and end up with frizzies, then straighten like crazy and still don't get this result. I have a lot of damage from an overprocessed highlighting 8 months ago, and you can't tell with this dryer. I am amazed because I had no flyaways. It was soft and bouncy when done, like a salon style. I've been changing shampoos, conditioners, treatments, straighteners, round brushes, etc., wondering how stylists get your hair so perfect and never realized my problem was the dryer. Definitely worth the money! UPDATE - 8/1/14 - Still love this dryer. My hair now takes no time to straighten and style. Sounds silly but I enjoy doing my hair, and I used to hate it. I did see some concerns that it isn't as hot as other dryers and that's not correct. If you touch the condenser/channeling attachment after use it is VERY hot. I think because the air moves so fast from the dryer that blowing it on your hand feels cooler (it's moving so fast it probably cools down quicker). But drying takes no time.

Love my Elchim- Wish it was lighter
Years ago I purchased my first Elchim in a long standing NYC beauty supply shop. At the time I felt it was pricy, but I was told it was top of the line. I loved it and it lasted 10 years. My only complaint was it was fairly heavy. After that I moved to a T3 featherweight which has lasted me almost 8 years. It started losing power about a year ago and I thought possibly time to go back to my old brand. Coincidentally my hairdresser used this 3900 to blow out my hair and I thought this could be the one! So far it's working great. Lots of power. It get's super hot- which is great at the roots. I have a lot of hair and this has definitely cut down my drying time. The only problem is, it's still a little too heavy for me. I'm sad it's not perfect. Before the return window expires I'm thinking of returning it to try the XLite version.

Three words: Oh. Em. Gee.
Let me start by saying that I have purchased a few high-priced hair dryers in the past and none of them has ever lived up to the hype. As far as high-end dryers go, this Elchim is really not that expensive (I've seen them as high as $300+). This model retails for $200 at a national brick & mortar beauty chain, but I paid $125 here on Amazon. I read all the great reviews and was guardedly optimistic. I can say that this dryer is seriously amazing. I love everything about it. #1 - The manufacturer claims that the weight of the dryer is distributed in such a way as to ease wear on the forearm & wrist (sounds like a load of marketing BS, right?). At first it seemed a little heavy when I took it from the box but I have to say neither my arms, wrists nor shoulders felt tired at all while I was using it. #2 - It is really pretty quiet and makes more of a hum than a whine. #3 - This dryer is very well designed. The position of the heat & airflow switches on the handle is perfect. You can make adjustments on the fly without having to change your grip. Also the cool-shot button is in the exact spot where your thumb naturally rests while holding the dryer so you don't have to grope around to find it. Buttons & switches are easy to use but provide enough resistence so you don't accidentally change settings. #4 - Even on the hottest setting it does not get scorchingly hot. #5 - The airflow is very powerful and really does cut down on dry time considerably. I've heard that powerful airflow is key for a good blow-out. I was skeptical about this because every hair dryer I've ever had blows my hair around like crazy and basically turns it into a knotted mess, the hair shaft never seemed to lay smoothly and my ends always looked fried (I had always attributed the fried ends to the fact that I bleach my hair). The airflow of this dryer pretty much goes only where I want it, does not blow my hair all over the place, and when I'm finished my hair looks super smooth & shiney all the way down to the ends. In a nutshell I could not be more happy with this dryer and can't even think of anything negative to say about it. If I'd known it would work this well I honestly would have gladly paid double for it. But don't tell Elchim that.
