I've been loving the Hario Switch! V60's are already so well known so I won't get into that, but the switch opens up new possibilities of immersion or hybrid brews. It seems great for various skill levels, from beginners to experts. For pourover beginners like me (though I come from the high-precision rabbit hole of espresso), immersion brews seem more forgiving. And having discussed with those who are much more experienced, immersion and hybrid brewing are nice tools to add for your arsenal. The switch itself is easy enough to use and clean. I'd just be a bit more careful when cleaning it, as I have read about people accidentally breaking the mechanism. The carafe does the job, but that can be the first area to upgrade. Overall, this is essentially a V60 with the extra capability of stopping flow when desired. That alone opens up a world of possibilities while at minimum still being a perfectly fine V60 dripper.

I already had two pour over sets made in Japan - one ceramic, and one copper. I no longer use those, and just use this one. The results are faster and easier. I don't bother with the slow pour over process, and careful timing, and all the waiting. This is so much more practical. And its good quality. The glass and silicone have a nice heft to them, and don't seem too fragile. My only slightly complaint is that the filters don't fit super well and tend to fall over a bit - compared to the pour over systems with fluted filters which are more stable. I have to hold this filter open with one hand to pour the ground coffee in, and make sure its set in a stable way.

A very worthwhile "refinement" of the venerable Hario V60. Have both, but USE this one. Extremely flexible since the "switch" thingie can be used or not. For my nickle it's the epitome of "Good Gear" and is my go-to pour-over kit.

Great pour over with the option to allow the coffee to brew for awhile before it all pours through. Gives you a variable to experiment with to create the coffee just like you like it. Hario is a great company. I have been using their syphons for many years.

Which technique is worthwhile. Give it a try. You can also do more Hoffman's or other V60 brewing as well as immersion brewing a la Clever Dripper. Note that the brewing chamber is heavy glass and the unit is, overll, top-heavy, especially when placed on a lighter vessel. So, be careful not to knock it over as the morning fog lifts, if you see what I mean. Note also that the mechanism controlling the flow is a tad fragile. It doesn't easily break, although I have seen people buying the lever for this online. Instead, it can become disengaged, requiring carefully re-placing it. In the older versions of this brewer, the little stainless steel ball was not secured and could become lost. In the present version, this has been addressed and is not a problem. I had been thinking of getting the Hario Suiren brewer for the aesthetics of it, but this brewer, if less of an art piece, offers actual variances of brewing technique and therefore I opted for this instead. Best decision - this is a quality piece - I probably would have just purchased the switch as I use it on a mug now. I preheat the glass by running some hot water in it and letting it sit while I prep the grounds and water. It took a few attempts to perfect the water to grounds ratio and bloom and brew timing to my liking - but I'm thrilled with this purchase and highly recommend it.

I usually use Aeropress and wanted a new coffee toy. This was on sale for S$27 so it seemed like something worth trying. It’s easy to use and set up. The glass is much sturdier and thicker than I expected. Before it arrived I was worried it would be fragile. I make sure to let it cool down before I wash it so I don’t damage it. I see what people mean when they say they’re worried the switch is fragile. It’s a bit of plastic that you certainly need to mind when you’re cleaning it. See my photo. I don’t even know if you could get a replacement switch if it breaks.
