I bought books as a class set for my 5th graders. However, we will skip around due to one story talking about sex and another. Not graphic, just a line or two of one story of how the girl felt like "she had to" She felt guilty, etc. but that's one part we will skip. I pair it up with Number the Stars, so we read the WHOLE fiction book, but we still read "Hidden" because we are able to bypass something that may be inappropriate, but at the same time, the stories are important. Maybe more middle school than fifth grade to read alone. Overall, my students loved it. Again, we didn't read the whole thing, but we did read the majority of this book, particularly children their age and younger. Its in separate chapters for each child. At the end of the book it has pictures of the children today. It has great text features, pictures, captions, bolded words, footnotes, etc. Students enjoyed reading this paired up with Number the Stars. Review: Good read - Book delivered in perfect condition and I enjoyed the short stories in them. A small sneak into their lives and how brave these people were to endure such tragedies. I enjoyed the photos that came before every story too. I'm so glad the author wrote this book and would recommend.

What a good read!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this kid's book. I learned a great deal more than I expected to and when I was done with it, I passed it on to my 9 year old who likes history. My only warning is this. If you do not want to have a conversation about sex, it might be better to wait to read this book. Although it is only one paragraph, it is a striking paragraph.

Amazing!
I loved this book because you got to take a look at what it was like for these children & their families, not just one persons story. And to hear a child's perspective. Most only hear of Anne Frank & her story. This gives you a better perspective. Not all children were treated well, they never stayed in one place/home & the confusion they must have had so young. Incredible what these people went through. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the holocaust. Especially because I haven't found many books that focus on the children.

Very Informative
Amazing for young adult/teen readers to know that more than just one family went into hiding during WWII. My daughter is 12 and she said that she loved it. Would recommend for middle school teachers.

Very moving and keeps Anne Frank's memory of hiding alive
Short stories that can be read quickly and that are true and inspiring of the risks that everyone took and the hardship during that time

Good for middle grade and some young adults
This book is a bit basic for most adults and many young adults. It presumes readers know little about the Holocaust or the Occupation, and the writing seems aimed at about the 6th grade level. That said, its narratives of children's and young persons' survival in hiding under the Nazi Occupation are often gripping and well done.

Very moving
Very well written. Shares some hard truths of post war life as well. A story that needed to be told. Thank you for putting this together and sharing it with the world
