They’re super easy to drive at just 32 ohms and 102 dB sensitivity, so they’ll have no problem playing straight out of an adapter for your phone or just your laptop. While they’re not super portable, it doesn’t matter since these aren’t meant for commuting as leaking noise in and out is part of how it sounds. They don’t fold at all and have no case but they do come with a cloth sleeve to protect them from dust as they ship. The SHP 9500 sounds brighter and more forward for 2 reasons: the back is more open and the drivers are closer to your ears. The Sennheiser is more neutral sounding -some find it somewhat muffled unless you do the "mod" (removing a piece of tape inside) - I did. The opening on the Phillips is huge so fit maybe something to consider for one who wears a small size hat.The stock Sennheiser cable/plug size is for Home stereo. I mostly listen on an I-pod so I had to replace the stock cable - a $22 accessory. It was well worth it!!! The Phillips comes with a long but replaceable cable. As mentioned, I mostly use an ipod for portability and convenience so I replaced the cable with a much shorter 1.3 m monster cable that I picked up for $ 25. I played both headphones for 100 hours to allow them to "bloom". They have differing sound signatures and I can use them for long listening sessions. I love long solitary hikes and being "open type" they allow ambient noise to be heard - I just amp up the volume. Indoors, I can play them softly. By now, you can see that I am not a critical listener and use the headphones to enjoy music in any environment. I defer to the experts for the critical listening opinions.I use the headphones with a Fiio 7 portable amp. This is a winning combination. Both will sound good on an ipod without any boost but if you want presence, amp it up! We all have different ears...I have no qualms about using EQ either.Let me sum it up - If I catch a cold and sneezing results in some swelling if the ears, I will use the Phillips. Get a dedicated concenser mic and you'll be good to go. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good quality, but were not the open back I was personally hoping for *by K***E on May 23, 2025* This was my first experience purchasing open-back headphones, and I stumbled upon these. I'm not an audiophile, but I think the sound is very good, and they are certainly more open than most gaming headsets, I am writing this review 10 months later and still use them as my main headphones. But you should note that the "open back" does not stay truly open, Phillips introduced a swivel on each individual cup so that they will conform to your head with about 45 degrees of rotation ccw and maybe 15ish degrees cw (as viewed top-down) on each cup. They are more "loose" than "open" in my opinion. The resting position of the cups is comfortable, my only complaint is there isn't an actual air gap like I was expecting that would allow for full situational awareness. These, you can kinda get them to sit on the edges of the cups for a little while before they fall back into place flat against your head (in which case, they still don't muffle outside sounds as much as most other headphones) I can hear what's around me with more clarity than other headphones, but not quite as clearly as I wished. They do at least eliminate that feeling of hearing your own muffled voice without being aware of how loud you actually are speaking! The aux cord with attached microphone kinda sucks. The mic sound quality is pretty decent, BUT... As you move even a little, the cord will rotate in the 3.5mm port and introduces a static noise that listeners are annoyed by. It rotates very very easily, and as the cord rests in front of the user's shoulder, it's not able to be avoided.
