Found my massive Propane leak from my 250 Gallon tank that cost me $200 in lost propane.
I had a propane leak to my gas grills, yes my BBQ and Blackstone from my 250 gallon tank and I couldn't figure out why I was refilling so frequently. I bought this meter to check and test all of my connections. I found a massive leak and my valve that goes to my grills that is separate of my in house appliances at the valve. I took everything apart after the valve and bought new connections and resealed them and tested them again and came up with 0ppm leaks. Worth the money for this detector. I recommend.

It worked for me!! Don’t need to shop around!
First off, this is a ‘real’ review you can count on bc I live in a shady apartment complex and had a natural gas and co leak in my apartment. Too low to set off the co detectors and of course most detectors detect carbon monoxide(co) and smoke. Natural gas you are on to ur own. Anyway after this whole ordeal with my apt. I invested in a natural gas digital readout wall detector and this here FD Gas leak detector. I came home today after getting groceries and smelled gas in the hallway that 4-units share. I smelled gas right away. So I quickly put away all my stuff. Grabbed the FD went outside to setup. I used the ‘sense-high’ and switched to PPM. Went back in the hallway from outside. Then sure enough the PPM’s started to register. Low at first then it broke about 103, and kept climbing. I went up stairs and it went down. I went back to first floor and first put it in my apt…went to to zero. My neighbor across hall was not home so I put the detector at the door jamb and watched it go to 200ppm. Started banging on all of my neighbors doors no one answered. Called 911. Explained issue. They came out guns blazing. Shut down gas. Then did an investigation, gas company and shady maintenance manager came out and resolved leak. So all 3 neighbors were not home. Thank gosh. Between discovering leak and calling 911 - 2 min passed. I. Had been through this 2 weeks before. THIS GADGET WORKS. While the fire department guys said they smelled gas, their detectors didn’t detect it. Likely bc there’s are set 10% lower than lethal limit. But I watched it climb to 400+ with the FD guys watching it just shoot up. Get it. It may have saved a life today. Gas leaks and Carbon Monoxide are no joke.

Easy to use and detect gas leaks
It was able to confirm the leak I thought I was smelling, however it was quite slow in response and hard to pinpoint the exact source. The display is nice and easy to read, and the instructions are pretty straight forward.

Works great, sensitive, descrete readings, easy to use
This little meter works great. Used it to pinpoint a tiny natural gas leak at the back of a range, probably since it was installed two years ago. Well worth it. Appears sensitive (picked up natural gas at a level below what my wife and I could smell), has a nice digital readout, simple to operate. My wife and I would very occasionally smell a trace of gas near the range, but could not pinpoint it. The majority of the time we could smell nothing no matter how hard we tried, and assumed it was associated with the small amount of gas that would escape before the burners lit. I grew suspicious, and bought this meter. Immediately it detected the hotspot was where the range met the wall at the back. I pulled out the range, and the hose and valved looked new and in good shape. Further detective work with the meter narrowed it down to the connection at the valve. I unscrewed the hose and found that the installers didn't use tape or pipe thread compound! Added gas pipe tape, screwed everything back together, and all is good as confirmed by the meter. Nice product!

Extremely useful, detected a leak that PSE&G did not detect in 2 attempts! (Tips at end)
(see Tips at end) I purchased this because we smelled gas in the basement, but PSE&G could not detect it with their meter. I calibrated it and it was detecting gas *everywhere* inside. That made me skeptical, so I put it to the stove burner (running but not lit) and it pegged high. I put it outside and it went back to zero. So I felt like it was working. After checking the whole house, I isolated the highest readings to the gas water heater. I did not see the pilot tube corrosion because it was under the tube not on top. I called PSEG again, another guy shows up and commented the Forensics meter is "too sensitive to be useful". Well again, his meter didn't pick up anything in the house. I bring him to the water heater and his meter is STILL not getting anything (!). I showed him 2 places I was getting very high readings, the thermostat and the exhaust up top. After like 10 minutes, he visually locates the corroded pilot tube . Long story short it got fixed and now my Forensics meter reads ZERO all around the house including the water heater. Despite my concern it was accurate the whole time. I have decades of experience with high-end electronic test equipment. My expectations were low for this being only $100. But this meter proved itself against the big boys, it may not read the exact PPM, but it's a useful relative indicator and you can trace a leak with it. I'm sure this will come in handy again. TIP 1- based on the reviews of people breaking it, I am VERY careful with it. It's weighted kind of awkward due to the top heavy sensor so just treat it like it's a Champaign glass. I carry it from the tube so it's balanced. TIP 2- make sure you calibrate it outside where there's zero gas TIP 3- natural gas rises and it's shocking how much that tiny leak filled the house with detectable gas! Do not be surprised if you get readings far away from the source of the leak!

A worthwhile addition to my toolbox
This product is great for checking my kegerator for R290 leaks and made the job easy and safe. I used it to repair my commercial kegerator which needed a re-charge of R290 refrigerant. R290 is purified and dried Propane gas and it is important to do a leak test with the detector before, during and after recharging. This was a quick repair/recharging and I saved a lot by buying this rather than calling out a repair person. It was the most expensive part of the kegerator repair, but the detector is well made and I am sure will give many years of service. It's Amazing how sensitive it is to very small amounts of explosive gas. I tested it on the BBQ and even a quick 1/2 second twist of the control to release gas was detected by this unit. Thanks!

A must have
Absolutely a game changer, this meter works amazing for when you have to do installs or if you think there is a leak. If you work or service restaurants, best tool to have in your arsenal.

No manual
This didn’t even come with a manual. You can’t just take it out of the box and use it. You have to select the type of gas you want to detect. And you have to calibrate it. I’ll admit I’m not very technical so I tried finding a helpful video for this model but had no luck. I need to test for natural gas so if anyone knows how to set this up for that please let me and others know. It looks well made and probably works as designed if you can figure out how to use it.
