Before a hike, we would add some of these lentils into a small thermos and add some hot water. After our long hike we would get back to the car very hungry. The lentils would be perfect. When at home it is easy to make lentils using our stove but when traveling this is so much more convenient to just pour boiling water into a thermos and then wait a couple of hours. I have also added them to oatmeal at times for a different flavor (my wife doesn't think this would be good but I love it).

I make "Meals in Jars"...  Vacuum packed meals from dehydrated or freeze dried food that you add boiling water to and they're ready to eat in 10 - 30 minutes. Gourmet meals made from dried food and vacuum packed in mason jars, mylar bags or Food Saver bags.  Use them for backpacking, camping, food storage, vacations... whatever. I got these for Ham and Beans!
