Why do these wicks go bad? i have two that won’t light. they are not yours it’s just a general question so when i do order i know how to preserve them

The stones often get clogged with carbon after 2 or 3 uses. However, they are not shot. get a small glass jar & fill 3/4 full with alcohol 91%. Put the wick in stone side down & shake a little. let soak an hr or so. Or, I just leave them in the jar until another lamp needs one. the good stones I put into a 2nd jar of clean alcohol, the cheap ones might clean up a few times & the better ones will last longer & burn better.

Why do the ceramic tops turn black and absolutely will not radiate heat?

That means you need to replace the whole wick. The flame on the ceramic wick should be lite for no more than 3 minutes, then it should be blown out. The whole lamp should purify a 20 x 20 room in about 20 minutes. Then cap the lamp.

Can this be used in the la tee da effusion lamps?

I've used the La Tee Da oil and wicks in the Lampe Berge lamps and vice versa.
