what are the settings for the 9 dip switches?

The dip switches must be set to match the corresponding dip switches on the garage door opener it. Altogether, they constitute the "secret" code. Some newer garage door openers have a different way to set the code, and so do not have the dip switches. If your garage door opener doesn't have the dip switches, then you bought the wrong remote control.
