When Detective Logan Riske goes undercover to find Pepper Yates, a potential link to his best friend's unsolved murder, he vows to gain her cooperation by any means necessary. But the elusive beauty is more suspiciousand in far more dangerthan he expected. And the last thing Logan needs is to start caring for her . Pepper has spent years dodging the corrupt club owner who will stop at nothing to keep her silenced. She can trust no one, not even the handsome new "construction worker" who's moved in next door. The heat between them is undeniable. But will surrendering to passion bring her the safety she so desiresor will her feelings for Logan draw them both into a killer's crosshairs? Review: It's a pleasure to discover a new author I want to read. - Lori Foster is an established author who is so descriptive I remember the last book of hers I read, even though it's been almost a year later and I've read dozens of book since then. I read book three of this series first and I can say, reading them out of sequence will not spoil anything. Logan Riske (Stark) is undercover to lure Rowdy Yates out of hiding so he can testify against Morton Andrews the local crime boss who had Jack Carmin killed. Jack was Logan's best friend and he is seeking justice. He uses Rowdy Yates sister Pepper(Sue Meeks) to bring him out in the open. In the process he falls for the dowdy, plain and enigmatic woman. I wish the book description was a bit more compelling since I've passed her books by for years. I believe I recalled her earlier book because her location and character descriptions are amazing. I wouldn't say there are a lot of plot twists or surprises in the story. It is straight forward and detailed. Sometimes stories get so convoluted you need a score board to keep track. Not here. Basically she lets the story tell itself. That is the sign of a truly talented and gifted author. Ms. Foster introduces the characters for the rest of the series but definitely not in a way that distracts from the story. They all play integral parts in this book. I've read other writers who introduce characters from books later in a series but the authors dedicate chapters to these characters who have nothing to do with the book I was reading. If you read some of my other reviews you'll know what I mean. This is another huge plus for her. She also flips back and forth between the points of view of the major players in the story clearly and with no confusion about whose eyes we are seeing this through. That's the third major point for her writing. Finally she ends the story with 1- suspense, 2- satisfaction, 3- liberation and 4- a touch of much needed humor to relieve the tension. So that's a grand slam and I've NEVER given one before in the 150 reviews I've written for desertcart. I won't say it's the best story I've read, maybe top five and like I said, I read a book a day. But it sure as hell is close to one of the best written books I've read. Top two. If I were to say something critical she might keep an eye on for future books. She might want to include the humor a lot earlier and make the books shorter. I had other things to do and it took me three days to finish this book. But with that said; it was well worth the time. Get this book, and read a few books in between each in the series. (It will give you a break) This is a recommendation you should heed. Review: Enjoyed It the Second Time Too - I read the first few chapters on an on-line a teaser/preview. When the novel arrived from desertcart, I thought I'd skim over the part I'd read, and get on with it. Unn huh. I discovered this novel was juicy and deep the second time around. It was so enjoyable to re-read the blossoming relationship with Logan and Pepper that I forgot about skimming, and settled down to relish an encore. The hero and heroine really seem to smoke up the pages as they get to know each other. SYNOPSIS: Hero undercover cop Logan has finally located the sister of the elusive Rowdy Yates. Find the sister, find Yates. Find Yates a highly sought skittish eye-witness, and Logan can crack the case on who murdered his best friend. Logan cozies up to the sister, planning to use her in any (AND I do mean ANY!) way to get info from her on the whereabouts of the brother. Logan is rich and handsome and falls head over heals in love with the spitfire hellcat from the wrong side of the tracks. Pepper is a strong self sufficient, loyal to a fault kind of character. You can imagine she doesn't take kindly to being used by Logan to locate her brother. PROS: Loved the book. Love (almost) everything Foster writes. I met her at an author convention, and she is awesome and down to earth and brilliant, and just peachy. She writes in the escapist, romance suspense genre (although I tried talking her into trying her hand at a sci-fi novel - to no avail, grrrr!!!). I recommend buying all her books. The cover! Nice......! This one is also setting itself up for at least two other stories, on for Rowdy Yates and a certain mysterious red head, and one for Logan's partner and the unknown next-door, `Alice ... Something'. I can't wait to read their stories. CONS: Unfortunately, the story line about corruption, fizzled out. Without giving away a spoiler, apparently cops pulling the trigger on city counsel men doesn't draw the ire of anyone. This was not properly resolved, nor given the attention it would normally draw. The whole reason for Logan stalking Pepper in the first place was to nail the person who killed his best friend. Um... Wouldn't that include the trigger man too, not just the guy who ordered the hit? Go buy this book and enjoy.

Loved it!
I have a hard time finding books that have a good story line and romance. This one had it all! Logan is a great character and his brother is great to. I enjoyed everything about this book. It had suspense, good sex scenes later in book, and it had you wondering about his partner Reece. Was he a good guy or not? Didn't know until the end of the book. Logan's woman Pepper was very believeable as a shy timid and very dressed down undercover woman. When she showed her true self look out. She was fierce. This one had it all! Very well written, just the right amout of build up, and a very good ending you didn't see coming. Just read it. It is worth the small price for a very good read.

Top quality romantic suspense
Two years ago, a councilman and friend of Detective Logan Riske were both killed. Everyone knows drug and human trafficking kingpin Morton Andrews is responsible, but the largely corrupt local police department has no proof. With the approval of their Lieutenant, Margaret Peterson, Logan and his partner Reese Bareden set out to find it. Rowdy Yates has protected his younger sister all their lives, especially after their drunken parents perished in a car wreck when Pepper was only 15. Street smart and determined to keep Pepper out of the foster system, Rowdy took her both of them off the grid. At the time of the murders, Rowdy and Pepper both worked for Morton Andrews at his club. Logan and Reese are sure that Rowdy, employed as a bouncer at his club, has information about the killings – but they haven’t been able to find him or his sister. Recently, Logan discovered Pepper living in a run-down apartment in the next county under an alias. He goes undercover, rents an apartment in her same building and sets out to seduce her, hoping to use her to help him find her brother. He isn’t aware that Rowdy owns the apartment building or that Pepper and Rowdy are in constant contact. This novel is very well done. There is plenty of suspense as Logan’s seduction of Pepper becomes effective – especially in bringing her to Morton’s attention. Logan and Rowdy both try to protect her, sometimes at cross purposes. As the first of the Love Undercover series, it definitely leads the reader towards the next book.

Loved it !!
I bought this book because it's the first one in the series and I read a great review of the third book so figured I'd start at the beginning of the series. In this book we meet the 4 males leads who will each get their own book in the series. Each book is a stand alone book but I think that each one is so good that you'll want to read all of them. And it's nice to learn a little about each of the characters in each book. So much more than just a sexy romance. There's a very good story here with characters who are fully flushed out and a good plot. The story will keep you guessing who the good guys are throughout the book. I also enjoyed the humor and clever back and forth banter between some of the characters. Can't wait to make my way thru the rest of the books !!

Run the Risk
Run the Risk by Lori Foster Love Undercover series #1. Pepper Yates is in hiding. Her brother is wanted by the law and anyone Pepper talks to may just be searching for Rowdy. When she gets a new neighbor, she tries to stay aloof, but the construction worker is friendly, and easy going. No way he’s connected to her brother. Pepper makes it clear she’s a one-time only girl and gets closer to Logan. But he’s really an undercover detective and things will go bad quickly. Logan falls for Pepper and wants to protect her. He just needs to get everything to fall just right. Fast, sexy, and unforgettable. Characters you’ll fall in love with. 🎧 the audiobook is narrated by Jim Frangione, a true professional that brings the romance and suspense to life, holding the listener’s attention

Stayed On Edge
Wow! What a fantastic book, I was hooked from page one. Logan wants revenge. His buddy Jack was murdered by Morton. Going undercover , he thinks Rowdy knows something. Luckily he finds Rowdy’s sister ( Pepper) hiding out and claiming her name is Sue. The plan is to use her. But is he falling for her? Will he betray her? Why does she hide her body? He finds himself obsessed over her. But then her life is on the line, what cops can they trust? Will Logan and Rowdy now work together to keep her safe? I just loved staying on edge and not knowing what will happen. Loved getting both points of view and also Rowdy’s point of view. Loved the ending too. I highly recommend this book.

3.5 STARS. It was good but toooooo LONG!!!
I liked the Hero and Heroin. I found their backstories interesting. The sex scenes were weird in a good way. There were suprises galore, but for me this one did not read so much as a romantic suspense novel. It felt more like a contemporary romance with aspects of intrigue. It was too long, I don't know if it was because the author was trying to set up secondary characters for future books, but at times it JUST DRAGGED! I like books with angst, books that suck me in and WOW me. This one DID NOT. It was interesting enough that I MAY read the next one in her series, but first I'll probably see how many pages long it is. Sometimes LESS is MORE.

Run the Risk & Bare It All
Super

NOT full of errors. Unsure about the first 1/2 of this book, but will read more in the series.
I like Romance/Suspense books as long as I can be entertained while not being taken for a fool. Pepper irritated me!! How on earth can somebody cover up looks that are that "over the top" by wearing a sports bra and shuffling along??? Then she was going to take on Morton and his whole crew with a knife!?!? She had to cover up her looks while working for Morton, but is thrilled to get back to being "herself" and getting rid of her disguise. I found the sex scenes (& the whole first half of the book) kinda weird. Something was just lacking. I liked Logan. His character didn't bother me. I really liked the secondary characters and will read at least some more books to see if they are an improvement. It was VERY NICE to read a book in this genre that is highly rated WITHOUT numerous grammatical errors. Not everybody who reads romance is illiterate and does not notice!! Sometimes we just want to escape and this book accomplished that. Kudos to Lori Foster in this regard.

I liked it and will read the 2nd one
Run the Risk is the 1st in Lori Fosters new series and I liked it, good start to a series, the main leads were a great pair and the other characters made you want to know more the next book is Alice and Reece's story and I for one will be buying it. Detective Logan Riske is undercover trying to find out why his best friend was murdered he gets a lead and moves in next door to Sue/Pepper, hoping that being close to her will get him closer to her brother who he believes is the key to solving the case. Sue/Pepper lives a quite life under the rader as Sue Meeks she makes sure not to draw any attention to herself, so she wears baggy clothes, has mousy hair pulled back in a tight ponytail and runs the apartment complex owned by her brother Rowdy. Logan decides to get close to his shy neighbour to gain her trust and hopefuly draw out Rowdy. Logans seduction technique works and he and Sue/Pepper end up in bed (on her terms)and before long Logan is falling for her, and knows before too long she will know the truth. This had a bit of everything romance, action and police corruption and good characters who have their own storys to tell Reese's book (Logans partner and friend)is up next and Alice his mystery neighbour and dog walker
