How far do the clips open to go on mirror?

They extend out about 3/4 to 1 inch, but not past the edge of the plastic casing of the monitor. Mine fit perfect on a 2010 Hyundai Elantra touring, but I’ve since upgraded to the 10” version for my new truck.
