Is the slicer like thing on the side protruded from the surface?** A: I sharpened the slicer with a mill file and I now make sliced cucumbers and even carrots all the time! It's faster and more precise than getting out my razor-sharp chef knife. **Q: Will this shred cabbage into thin strips for coleslaw? Which side do you use?** A: I haven't tried shredding cabbage, but I would think it would. It's nice and sturdy.
