Pros outweigh the cons. Good double din stereo from a reputable brand
I desperately needed some way to listen to music in my recently bought 2010 Genesis. It had no Bluetooth music and the aux did not work so I was stuck listening to the radio like old times. So I bought this one (I bought an off brand/Chinese one before this one but it did not fit and had to return it). Instantly changed my riding experience. PROS - Wireless or wired Apple CarPlay (I love it so much). - All the features that come with Apple CarPlay. Music, navigation, etc. (I mostly just use it for Spotify). - You now have a good quality double din stereo in your car that’s not stupidly expensive. That’s awesome by itself. - Just looks good and boosts your driving experience. CONS - Has a little bit of half second delay when clicking anything. - No knob to change volume. I seriously did not know that I would hate the + and - buttons for volume adjustment. It’s fine though, I just wished it had a knob. - Not too big of a deal but I’ve had a couple of instances where it just restarts out of no where. Comes back to life in like 7 seconds like nothing happened. - The mic it comes with is kinda trash. You’ll just have to yell at whoever you’re on the call with if your using hands free calling. But that’s all the bad stuff. If you ask me, the pros heavily outweigh the cons. I changed the stereo myself and I recommend to do heavy research before purchasing any stereo. For me, I had to buy like 3 separate things, 2 harnesses and a bezel, to install any stereo. YOU WILL NEED TO CUT WIRES AND CONFECT THEM. It’s not that hard though because the wires the stereo has are color coded and named to make connecting wires easy. 8/10 stereo

Awesome unit for the cost, perfect for a more budget friendly setup
Easily setup and works extremely well for a fraction of the cost of any other CarPlay head unit. Has a lot of features only a few I have setup personally such as connecting a sub to it. The responsiveness is meh when it’s connected wirelessly however when you plug it in it’s lightning fast. The screen quality itself is also quite good and is comparable to any other head unit. Setup perfectly into my 2001 miata

Excellent Radio, Less than Adequate Customer Support
Installed this to replace an older model that didn't have Android Auto. Everything works great and the screen has large controls, which make viewing easier. Highly intuitive and easy to hook up. The ability for both front and rear camera's on demand is a plus. It even has the ability to power the camera if you want operation without the reverse lights on. Only one complaint. It has a setting for default volumes for each of the various functions (navigation, phone, radio, stream, etc.). These randomly reset back to zero. Contacted the Boss customer support line and the answer that I got was how to set the volume. Less than supportive. Overall, a very good car radio that performs very well with good visibility on the screen. This is important to me as I have gotten others with font so small it couldn't be read quickly while going down the road.

Nice upgrade from my old Sony
Good replacement for my older, less powerful Sony head unit. The rear USB cables allow for some custom console phone connections and an additional USB port for loading photos or playing movies. The other port is labeled for Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. This newer design forces the installation of a custom single pole single throw toggle switch to simulate the parking brake though. Plenty of YT vids on this though. The old school tap off the negative wire no longer works. The 300+ watts also really makes the sub sound better too. Adding images from a USB drive as wallpapers is a little tricky, as you must rotate the image when reviewing them for the button to select it to be visible, then after a few seconds it will be saved. Images are only visible when using the tuner. Oh, and the button illumination color is NOT changeable on the 9700A model. You only get blue. So far, so good though. November 2025 Update Unit is starting to have random issues where the display is black after starting the vehicle. While sound is still heard, volume controls do not work. Issue is resolved by restarting the vehicle. Still looking for a pattern of failure before seeking warranty service.

It works great, but there are better options for a similar price
Edit: 14 months later. The screen went white. The unit still works. My bluetooth still connects and plays if I tap on the right areas. But the screen is completely useless now. No reason to use carplay if I can’t see my maps. Reverse camera is useless now because it’s just a white screen. It works exactly as intended. Carplay is seamless. This is the car stereo with the highest wattage output I could find with carplay at this price point. It’s honestly the only reason why I won’t upgrade to an Atoto stereo. Since my car doesn’t have an amp. But if your car does have an amp or you don’t care about the wattage going to your speakers I highly recommend an Atoto. The BOSS works. It can be laggy, especially on a hot day. I also have an atoto in another car. The same iPhone X on carplay runs a little laggy on the BOSS. I think it’s because the BOSS’ touch screen is a little less responsive. The Boss stereo has all basic features you could need. One bluetooth connection and wired carplay and android auto. That actually works. And will automatically start playing when you have your phone connected and start the car. The built in equalizer is also useful. But if you want more features or a smoother running radio (processing and touch screen wise) get an atoto A6pf. The BOSS is a good radio, there are just better options if you don’t need the extra wattage.

i bought this headunit for my 2011 golf. the headunit itself is great, apple car play is wired and wireless, it’s got the option for 2 cameras (front and back), great sound, it’s fast for input (no lagging when you press a button) etc. a lot of great things i could say. to keep it short, if you’re putting this headunit or any headunit similar to this in your VW, you’ll need to supply an external ignition source, or else the radio won’t turn off when you turn off your car, and there is no way to turn off the radio from the actual radio itself. you’ll need to wire into something else. this is where i’ve been having trouble. i’ve tried piggybacking off some fuses in the fuse box and ive had no luck. i’ve read a lot of articles saying you need to wire into the 12v cigarette lighter, which is what i’ll try next. i’ll update if anything changes. UPDATE : i’ve fixed the issue, the piggyback worked. and i’ve been using it the last couple months, and genuinely for the price, 5 stars. i haven’t even used all of its capabilities (haven’t hooked up any cameras to it, it has 2 input for cameras !!) apple carplay is great, no issues! i love it :) definitely recommend

Its ok but anoying installing as no oem or after market harness readily available and the usb inputs and apple car play are cables from the rear which make your car look ugly, this is not the stereo for you if you don’t want cables hanging out of your dash. Would not buy again.
