Is the straw wide enough for thick smoothies?

Yes, I think it would work great for smoothies, this is the best thing I've ever used for my water and ice. It keeps my water cold all day, it is tough too, and super easy to take apart, and clean.

No. Unfortunately it's made in China, it does say BPA free, and is stainless steel.
