A fine overview of modern day art museums by one who has thought long and hard about the subject.Charles Saumarez Smith provides his insights on the donors, architects, boards, and professional staffs that have inspired the construction of selected new or remodel art museums over the world, but especially in Europe and North America.A great book for those of us devoted to visiting great art museums, and an essential one for those who might be in a position to spark the development of any new art museum building.As an aside, I have visited a number of the museums mentioned in this book and agree with the author's comments on them almost without reservation. I especially agree with him about the positive nature of both the Menil Collection in Houston and the Kimbell in Fort Worth.
