It includes a daytime orange distress flag and marine whistle, fulfilling all USCG visual and audible distress requirements. Designed to float upright, it offers a safer, eco-friendly alternative to traditional pyrotechnic flares for recreational marine vessels. ## Description The Sirius Signal eVDSD SOS C-1003 Beacon is redesigned from their Original Alternative to Pyrotechnic Flares, the wildly successful model C-1001 (discontinued 2020). Powered by a high-performance, programmable microprocessor controlling an SOS flash pattern signal flashed through an even brighter and more potent LED, the Sirius Signal SOS C-1003 model is both family-safe and easy to use. The optical design provides an omnidirectional light display for surface rescue craft and a vertical beam visible to aircraft flying overhead. Improved flotation now even higher off the water, is visible up to 10 nautical miles, and the SOS C-1003's beam lasts for hours compared to the minutes-long lifespan of traditional pyrotechnic distress. US Coast Guard approved Visual Distress Signal (VDS) fulfills requirements (46 CFR 175.130) for recreational marine vessels 16 FT AND OVER signals when combined with the included Distress Flag. A quality Marine whistle is included to fulfill USCG audible signal requirements. Finally, a family and environmentally safe alternative to the antiquated pyrotechnic visual distress flare! Requires 3 C batteries (included). Review: So much better than flares... - Our marina mandated safety inspections for all boats that included flares. Two year old boat failed because flares were 3 years old. I still had 6 from the past two times I bought new ones (got 3 of them wet by over zealous spraying/washing). Now I just need to pop extra C batteries in. Will definitely save some money. This thing is so bright - very impressive. Feels very sturdy and is a breeze to use. Review: Good value! - Seems a great device. Tried it out at home and its very bright. (Hopefully I won't need it when on the water!) Thankfully regs have changed (in Tasmania, Australia) to allow an EVDS instead of flares - no more replacing them every 3 years. The Sirius unit was a good price and represents good value. (bit of no-brainer really to get one when your flares expire). Shipping/delivery was amazingly fast. ## Features - Never Buy Flares Again: Family safe and easy to use, the C-1003 is a complete Coast Guard approved kit that fulfills USCG Night, Day, and Audible distress signal requirements - Long Lasting Distress Signal: Flashes US Coast Guard spec SOS signal for up to 60 hours, many times longer than USCG requirements; batteries included - Incredibly Bright: Signal is visible up to 10 nautical miles - USCG Approved Kit: Orange distress flag fulfills daytime signal requirement; Quality marine whistle complies with USCG audible signal requirements - Floats Upright in the Water: Improved flotation keeps the signal higher off the water compared to older models - Environmental Stewardship: Replaces traditional, toxic, pyrotechnic flares with clean LED technology for a longer-lasting and safer SOS signal ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | ASIN | B081GHJ9XC | | Batteries are Included | Yes | | Battery Description | 3 C batteries | | Beam Angle | 360 Degrees | | Best Sellers Rank | #38,471 in Sporting Goods ( See Top 100 in Sporting Goods ) #14 in Boat Navigation Lights | | Brand Name | SIRIUS SIGNAL FOR LIFE | | Color | Orange | | Colour | Orange | | Customer Reviews | 4.7 out of 5 stars 2,890 Reviews | | Finish Types | Unfinished | | Finish type | Unfinished | | Item Dimensions L x W x H | 11.4L x 11.4W x 21.6H centimeters | | Item Weight | 667 g | | Light Output Maximum | 400 Lumens | | Light Source Special Features | White LED flashes SOS | | Light Source Type | Light Emitting Diode | | Light source type | Light Emitting Diode | | Manufacturer | SIRIUS SIGNAL FOR LIFE | | Manufacturer Part Number | White SOS Signal | | Material | Plastic | | Material Type | Plastic | | Model Number | C-1003 | | Mounting Type | Pole mount or bracket mount | | Number of Batteries | 3 C batteries required. Designed to enhance safety by signaling for help or drawing attention to a vessel in need. **Q: Why should you replace your flares with an SOS eVDSD?** A: USCG approved, SOS eVDSDs are Family Safe, Never Expire and reduce toxic waste from pyrotechnic flares. Please note that regulations and specific devices may vary by region and type of vessel. **Q: What is the difference between an SOS eVDSD distress light and a strobe light?** A: An SOS distress light is designed to signal for help in an emergency. It emits the internationally recognized Morse code signal "SOS" (three short, three long, three short flashes). A strobe light is a general-purpose, high-intensity flashing light. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ So much better than flares... *by S***B on 30 May 2026* Our marina mandated safety inspections for all boats that included flares. It lasts much longer than flares and cartridges and does not present a hazard to the user when employed. Safer, less expensive, long duration and easy to use in an emergency. A win all around. ## Frequently Bought Together - Sirius Signal C-1003 SOS LED Distress Signal - Electronic Flare Replacement, USCG Approved, Includes Daytime Flag & Whistle - Kidde Fire Extinguisher for Boats, Single-Use 5BC - Stearns Utility Flotation Cushion, USCG Approved Type IV Throwable PFD Boat Cushion Life Preserver, Doubles as Comfortable Place to Sit, Great for Boats, Canoes, Kayaks, & More --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.fr/products/269912292-sos-led-electronic-visual-distress-with-daytime-distress-flag-whistle](https://www.desertcart.fr/products/269912292-sos-led-electronic-visual-distress-with-daytime-distress-flag-whistle) --- *Product available on Desertcart France* *Store origin: FR* *Last updated: 2026-10-20*
