Fits DeWalt 618pk
Having several Makita guide rails and several routers from many manufacturers, I found a need for a router guide for my 118” Makita rail. I ordered this hoping it would fit my Festool OF1400 or my DeWalt 618pk. The Festool, I knew was a long shot, and yeah, no dice. The DeWalt “fits”. You have to offset the rods into the guide, meaning one rod uses the small rod hole, while the other uses the large one. I was unsure this was ok at first. Everything checked out and was square to the rail. After several test cuts, it most certainly seems to work. I wish Makita was more clear on which routers can use this guide. Luckily, it worked out.

Fits great with Festool track and Dewalt DW611 compact router.
This fits both the Festool track and the Dewalt DW 611 pk compact router using the plunge base . They fit snugly, just right. The price is right! I tried them with some other routers at the big box stores and they didn't fit the metal rods. The only other ones that fit the metal rods were Ryobi (both the models that were on display, plunge Model# RE180PL1G and non-plunge Model# R163GK). Not sure if the spacing is right, but it looks like it. You should check it if you are going to buy these. I already had the DW 611 pk, but was thinking it would be nice if they fit a full-size router, too. The two full-size routers I have are a Dewalt 618 and a Hitachi KM12VC. I already had the rods for the Dewalt 618 and they fit in one of the sides ok, but the spacing is wrong. The rods that came with the Router Guide don't fit the Hitachi. Hope this helps save some time for someone.

Makita... I want to love you so bad, but at least on Amazon, we got problems.
So, I don't know if I'm just incredibly unlucky, or if this is a bigger problem, and I've refrained from reviews until now. I ordered a Makita router last year on Amazon, and it was clearly returned and re-boxed, although by the looks of it, never actually used. Fine. Yesterday, I get my 40v XGT Makita track saw and the container has scratches and dings all over it, and is packed in the way... someone had to have returned it. The saw was in the container backwards, the handle had scratches on the grip. I was actually shooting for a video review and my mood turned the more I realized. Now, a few hours later and this comes in a clear plastic bag, containing ONE rail. Not four. One rail. You can literally see into the bag, and no one seemed to notice 3 of the 4 rods were missing. I have no idea if this is a vendor problem, or a Makita problem, but I want to love you so bad. Oh, and if I had another rod to actually use this, it would be great. Bit big, but that usually means solid and stable. I'll exchange it easily, its just, out of 8 items from Makita I've purchased in the last year or two, 3 of them looked to be repackaged.

Here’s the routers I have that I can use this with
If you are like me, you looked at this and thought “ Will this work with my router?“. Well the description on Amazon and the description at Makita‘s website give you basically no insight. So I’m going to give you a list of the routers I have that it works with in a list it does not. Works with: Makita RT701C, Dewalt DW621, ELU 3304 and Black & Decker Quantum Pro Q700 (essentially the same router as the ELU 3304 without the variable speed). The following is a list of routers with which this does not work: porter cable 690, Ridgid R29202 (neither the plunge nor fixed base), Bosch Colt PR10E or PR20E (neither the plunge nor fixed base), ELU 3339.I hope this helps my fellow Woodworkers. Also I am using this with the Makita track from the Makita track saw but my understanding is it will also work with Festool track.I cannot answer a question for any other routers as I don’t own or haven’t tried it with any other routers other than those listed I do have a Makita RF 1101 and a porter cable 7518 but those are in router tables and I doubt it will work with either of those.

Buyer Beware! It Works, But...
Good grief! I got apparatus to work, but what a hassle. Long-story-short, it did not fit the base of my DeWalt DW616. Let me explain. A set of four rods were shipped with this device. Two are 10.25 inches long and 12mm thick (diameter). The other two are 10 inches long and 8mm thick. The larger rods did not fit through the guide holes of either base I have. I have a plunge base and fixed base. I switch the motor out between the two depending on what I am doing. The holes in my bases are 11.7mm. The smaller rods of course did go through, but now you have a loose, sloppy, and unsure fit. Ended up using the rods I had previously. However, that was not the biggest problem. The rod spacing provided by the product base does not match up with the openings on the router base. The rod guide openings on the router base are 10cm apart. On the product base you must chose between 8.3cm using the smaller guide rods, or 11.5 cm using the thicker rods. Neither one worked as designed for me. To achieve the 10cm spacing required by my router bases I had to use one thicker rod (my own - 10mm) through one of the larger 12mm outside holes in the guide base, and one smaller 8mm inside holes with a smaller 8mm rod. This misaligns the router base to the device by throwing the entire router base off center. Take a look at the photos to see what I mean. The instructions are adequate; read them and study the pictures. You need good McGyvering skills to get this to work. Anyway, after getting the guide rail adapter securely fastened onto my router I was able to cut two perfectly straight grooves into my workbench top using the Makita plunge-saw guide sled. Note: don't forget to include the thickness of the guide sled (3/16") when calculating the depth of your slots. Otherwise your cuts will be too shallow. Also make sure you leave clearance between the cutting edge of the router bit and the rubber edge on your track saw sled. Otherwise you will cut off rubber edging on the sled. Would a recommend this product? Maybe. It did not fit my router at all as designed, but I made it work with alterations. I thought it was fussy and imperfectly executed, but in the end I was able to achieve the results I wanted. Honestly, it was very cool being able to use the track saw sled to guarantee perfectly straight dados of the perfect depth. I guess - buyer beware. Hope this helped.

The most disappointing point about this item is that there is no information provided here about what routers - makita routers this will work with. Fortunately it worked with my oldest 1 hp router with 1/4 bits and works well but would not connect with any of my other 4 routers, including a makita 1/2 bit plunge router, dewalt 3 hp, triton 3 hp and a bosch. Works well with the Makita and Festool tracks. Don't know about any others. If you are looking for a list of routers - go to the Makita web site, track saws, tracks and track accessories image. On the picture for this guide, there is a list of current Makita routers that it will work with. Hope that helps.
