It appears the original insulation was this same stuff, except it was 12 years old. After installing this insulation we traveled about 3000 miles and noted two major improvements First, the road noise was dramatically reduced, and second, the engine cover had no heat rise that we could feel. A small area that I could not reach to install the new material had a noticeable heat rise. When you install this stuff make sure the surface is clean and grease free, if you do this place it correctly the first time because it will not come off. As a side note, I covered the edges with metal tape to reduce wear on the foam. I purchased tape with the insulation, and it did not stick worth a hoot, but I used Home Depot heater duct tape and it worked great.
