Is this a 1 wire or 3 wire alternator?** A: This alternator has an internal regulator: therefore it can be configured as a 1-wire alternator as follows: looking at the terminal end of the alternator, with the two spade connections up, connect the right connector (voltage sense) to the output stud. Then all that is needed is to wire the output stud to the vehicle. However, you will get better battery voltage regulation if you connect the voltage sense to the battery as directly as possible: then the regulator will compensate for voltage drop in the wire from the output to the battery. The left (pilot lamp) connection can normally be left disconnected UNLESS the rotor has lost all magnetism (very rare). Then you need to flash the alternator, either by installing a pilot light between the left spade and the hot side of the ignition, or simply by connecting a test light from battery positive to the pilot light spade: you just need to get a little power to the regulator so it can start a magnetic field in the rotor. Do not connect a pilot light directly between the pilot light spade and the battery: this will drain the battery when the engine is off. **Q: does it use a separate regulator ?** A: No regulator is in it **Q: Will it work on a MF 135 diesel engine** A: I adapted it to a Chinese diesel and it works fine. 1. If the MF uses an external regulator, it's not needed. This is a stand-alone alternator, so just hook it to battery and ground. If the MF uses an ammeter, then wire it to that, but I replaced my ammeter with a voltmeter, which is more useful. 2. Not sure about the mount on MF, but even on the Chinese diesel, the mount was extremely close, and I just needed to grind off a tiny bit of the mount to get it to slide in freely. Make sure the pulley lines up for the belt. I did put a washer behind the pulley to line up better on mine. **Q: Will this fit a 230 Massey Ferguson 3 cylinder diesel** A: Probably not directly, but I have used these Delco alternators many times over the years on farm equipment and old cars and trucks. You just need to fabricate a bracket and some wiring. The voltage regulator is internal, so wiring is easy.
