Ours is 47 years old! It is steel that was chrome plated. When steel is chrome plated it is first plated with copper to help the chrome plate adhere better. Ours has finally started to wear through the chrome and shoe the copper in places. Guess we won’t replace it with this inferior version. **Q: So what is the rack made of? stainless steel, chrome or polished steel ...** A: The description said it was chrome which means it’s plated and most likely the base material is mild steel. Not stainless but will perform as a cooking rack just fine. **Q: Would this fit into a 7 quart oval Crockpot?** A: No this roasting rack will not work with an oval 7 qt. Crockpot. It is slightly too long and the corners are not narrow enough to fit either. For my oval crockpot I use an 8 by 6 inch OVAL rack. The beef roast, pork roast or roasting hen can be larger than the rack used as the rack is meant to just keep items out of the liquids. This rack I purchased for my medium sized oval turkey roaster (12 lbs or less) and it works fine for that purpose. **Q: What type of metal is this? Is it aluminum like the pan shown with it?** A: It's chrome plated. If you want stainless steel then check out the ikea sutare roasting pan with a stainless steel rack. The rack fits qtr sheet pan that you can use in a bov800 oven. The rack works great. Easy to clean and no rust or chrome. The set is 12.99.
