I figured I'd bump my head a lot since we had to install it 25" clearance over the range. But so far it's not been a problem. I like that the control panel goes dark when it's turned off. We have a great room floor plan, so having the LED clock blazing out the time all day and night can be annoying. Having a light on each side of the hood is like having a spotlight for each of the front burners (don't much use the back ones). But best of all is the great, wonderful CFM. It really clears out the steam and odors, I mean really, really clears them out. We replaced an over the range microwave, so maybe this is not surprising, but I can't remember any hood in any house (16!) I've ever had being as effective as this hood. I haven't had to use the highest setting, but the noise is fine on the lower settings. It is very heavy, so it took two of us using a cooler as a support to get it installed. The existing duct is 7 inches, so we bought an 8"x7" adapter which worked out well. The cabinet was already reinforced for the microwave, so all we had to do was enlarge the vent opening from a rectangle to a circle. All in all, straightforward to install but taking some strength and maneuvering in tight spaces. Hey, Cosmo, consider a bracket to support the bottom edge. That would be much more useful than the brackets that came with it. Review: Looks good, lots of suction some installation hickups - Have been using this for over a year so i think i can give a fair review. Overall very happy on how the vent hood perform and how well it looks. However I would like to point out a few points as follow: - At first I really prefer some physical buttons as i was worried that touch screen will get false trigger or non responsive due to it may get wet or greasy but so far I have no issue at all. In fact i fell in love of the touch screen due to it durability and easy to clean - the unit is not exactly 30 inch more like 29.5" but I guess it was stated in the spec. so it is not a flaw or anything but expect there will be some gap left to your uppers. I show them in the pictures which I don't think it affect the looks at all. - The unit is well built and heavy duty. The stainless steel feel thick and all the welds and hems are nicely done. the two fan units inside also looks heavy duty and securely fastened. No rattling or vibration of any sort even at full power - The fan is quite loud but is acceptable and expected I don't used to own a lot of range hood so I can't tell it is above or below the norm. - The suction is very good and I found I usually only need to use up to level 2 most of the time. when cook a steak with lot of oil smoke I may need to crank it up to 3. I usually need to open up the kitchen window to let air in and I can feel a strong breeze from the window with this thing on. - love how sturdy those oil screen are. pain in butt to pull all those blue protective films off. Some of the edges are quite sharp so be careful. - Installation is straight forward BUT: I follow the pattern in the manual to prep. the attachment screws location and it turns out the pattern is wrong. So make sure u just measure the unit's mounting hole instead of following the manual. - The unit stated the exhaust to use 8" pipe but this is not a standard America 8" exhaust size. If you get a normal American 8" ducting or elbow, it WILL NOT FIT. The exhaust pipe coming out from the top of the unit is way under 8". Originally I was planning running rigid ducting from the hood to the wall vent but my plan is foiled because of the non standard outlet size. However, the flex hose which the unit comes with fits perfectly with the supplied hose clamp and the flex hose's OD turns out to fit perfectly into the ID of standard 8" ducting. So this ends up working out for me: I have a standard 8" wall vent and I just stuff the flex hose to wall vent all the way it (up to the outlet at the wall outside). Charcoal vents range hood dont generally blow out. I believe its for internal circulation. **Q: Can it vent to the rear.** A: no it cannot vent to the rear directly out of the unit, only from the top of the unit, but i have a cabinet above it so hidden from sight i used a 90 degree elbow and vented out of my house because the wall it's installed on is an exterior wall. **Q: Can you mount it on wall without cabinet** A: Thank you for your question. We installed a less CFM version and it did not do much. With this hood, we could no longer smell the food odor around the house and it has not yet kick off our smoke detector since the day we installed the hood. We used to open all the doors and windows every time we did stir-fry. Not anymore. Installation wise, it is not easy because it is heavy. I installed it by myself with the help of a few friends. But it was still hard. Until I found a video of using the jack to jack it up, I did it and it was a breeze to install. The light is bright enough to keep my wife excited with her cooking. The suction power is great. It is not as quiet as I wish but acceptable because I know it is working. It came with the Flexi Duct and Damper. I did not use both of them. First, it is not up to the code to use the Flexi Duct. You have to use Round Smooth Duct. Second, for the Damper, it comes with two wings that can be opened and closed independently as air travels through the hole. However, before the installation, I tested it and most of the time, one of the wing when closing instead of going back to where it was, it fell on the other wing leaving the entire line open. This is against the purpose of the damper. The good news is it is not that hard to remove it from the hood. I then replace it with a different back-draft damper I found on Amazon. I see a lot of questions asking whether we can use 6" pipe with this product. My setup was 8 inch duct straight to the ceiling then I had a reducer from 8 to 6 due to the tight space I have on the attic.
