Also, does the buckle work or is it just ornamental and velcro?** A: Takes a little for your feet to get used to if you haven't had them before. They are wooden with the slight bump for toes and lower for heel. Buckle does work no velcro. **Q: is it "real" wood or some crappy made man imitation? for the price one would expect real wood.** A: It is real wood, dense and beautifully finished. (I believe that Dr. Scholl has a similar item with a man-made sole and fake leather, but that retails for about $19). I have received many compliments on these and it is very evident that they are made from real wood. I missed this email before! Actually I bought a pair of Dr Scholl"s last summer after 30 years! I wear a size 9 in most women's shoes and boots. I bought the Dr Scholl's in a 9 and they were a bit too big. I returned them and got an 8 and they were perfect!!! The Dr Scholl's have perfect spots where your toes should fit right over the hump and the back of your foot should round off at the end. With shoes and boots there should be a bit of room to move your toes but with the Dr Scholl's you don't have to worry about that!! Most likely with the Dr Scholl's go one size down!!!! ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Awesome Retro Original Wooden Slides! *by L***C on June 16, 2024* I love these Dr. Scholl's, but I only like the wooden slides, not the faux wood - so these are perfect! Note - the band is suede, which is a little strange with this being a summer shoe, but just note this. I have the yellow ones which sold out at a lower price, and thank goodness, because these are overpriced. Be careful with these, the platform is higher than you think, so it's easy to turn your ankle if you're not careful. Perfectly crafted and molded to the foot, and the quality is 5 stars - no issues with this sandal! I wish the wooden ones were easier to get, maybe in a few years! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Favorite summer sandal--still available *by E***E on August 21, 2015* It doesn't have the large toe grip (bump) like it did in the 70s which was comfortable for me, because I got used to it, but it's still a comfortable sandal. I find myself trying to grip with my toes, but I can get used to these, they're still very comfortable and I love wooden shoes. The only unusual thing about these is that I cannot open the slide buckle. I don't need to now, but when they get older and looser, I'd want to be able to tighten the strap. Maybe it's because they're new, so after they're broken in, I can keep trying to open the buckle. The color and fit are just as pictured and true to size, I'd get them in more colors if I could. ### ⭐ Sadly not like the ORIGINAL *by T***E on June 30, 2014* The picture looks the same but as others have said and I had to find out for myself, that's where the similarity ends. I can forgive the company that is making them for raising the price, after all it has been like 40 years since I bought my first pair, BUT the insole does not have the contour of the original and as for the adjustment strap, settings are too big OR too small. Maybe if the contour was correct the too big setting would work. I really wish these were the original shape and fit. I found it difficult to answer the "How does the product fit" question above so I chose too small. The foot size part seems true to size (i.e. size 8) but without the contour and the strap fit they are useless.
