Are these the round ant bait stations like the 30 count?

I don't know what the 30 count look like. But these are round ant bait stations. I personally prefer the Advion ant gel.

Do you need to open each station in some way?

No, the bait stations have openings for the ants to go in and out of... The only thing you need to do is to place the bait station in the ant trail/path... Use the adhesive backed strip on the bottom of every bait station to stick the bait station on sidewalls, corners... etc.

do these stations have a shelf life?

5 years if stored at room temperature. Sealed in their bag.
