This thickness is about 3/4" (0.75 in). I mounted mine directly to the wall without any additional spacing and it works very well. **Q: what size hooks should I buy that fit the holes well and not drop off everytime I get a tool? Thank you.** A: I used several types in mine. Used the ones made by this brand and used regular hooks with the addition of pegitz grommets comes in red or black made for peg board. They work great to hold standard peg hooks. The 1/4 inch pegs(conventional 1/4 inch pegboard pegs ) **Q: Are these 'specialty' hooks or will this use all pegboard standard hooks?** A: As far as i know it'll use any peg board hook. Any size **Q: Is there a way trim the size that anyone tried? Will put this under a shelf that is flush.
