Can I just put a movie in and watch it or is it a more complex process?

[Not an answer, but another question I need to know before I buy] I echo Brittney B.'s question: How will playing Blu-ray movies directly from the disc damage the drive? Would the video bandwidth called for be too much for the USB interface; would the disc malfunction due to irregular spin speeds because of the high bandwidth requirement? And would playing them from the hard drive even work due to the DRM/copy-protection inherent on Blu-rays? I need to know this before I buy.

It may not play directly to your TV, but most computers and laptops now adays, can "Cast" to a TV, so that would be oone way to do it.

Will this drive make it possible to import and copy my existing blu ray discs?

Make MKV is a great program to use to rip Blu Rays and I use it to rip dvds for my Plex server.
