The Honest Kitchen Human Grade Dehydrated Whole Grain, Veggie & Fruit Base Mix Dog Food (Just Add Protein), 3 lb Box

I have an 8 yer old Boxer and he has been eating this for over a year with the best results. Boxers have delicate stomachs and get GERD easily from the most random things. We have tried many foods, from top of the line break the bank brands, to the more available brands at the local pet store. This is the only thing that has brought him relief. We add fish as his protein and it has been like a miracle. Mixing is very easy. I scoop out the dehydrated food, add boiling water and mix. If it’s too dry, I add cool water. If it’s too thin, I add more food. It has a vegetal smell that is neutral to me. Then I portion it into plastic containers for each meal and refrigerate. I mix about 3 days worth at a time. When mealtime comes, I take it out and give it a pop in the microwave to take the chill off, add the raw fish and mix. My dog really enjoys mealtime and I am happy knowing his belly won’t be upset. An added benefit is HIS POOP IS PERFECT!!! I find the cost to be about the same as a 70 pound bag of food if you include the cost of the fish. I would highly recommend giving this a try if your dog suffers as mine did. It’s easy to store, easy to make and a high quality product.

TLDR; This sounds like I'm pitching an MLM but I'm not, I'm just really happy and I like to shout out products that work. My 2year old Boxer Malcolm's been dealing with some pancreatitis and/or pancreas-related diet struggles since Spring. In addition to eastern treatments, rx meds as necessary, I've been cooking for him - but the menu has been so narrow and limited that he started having skin issues. Despite his labs showing good levels of vitamins/minerals, I KNOW it was because he wasn't getting enough of the right nutrition by ratio of type, and in the fats/omegas department, but I felt like my hands were kind of tied as all omega supplements worth a dang are oil-suspended and that is a sure trigger. And he had failed every Rx diet ($$$). I wasn't ready to try a flavorless hydrolyzed Rx food until I exhausted all of my educational resources. I really set aside time to do a power-deep-dive in forums and FB groups and discovered Honest Kitchen. It's everything but the protein, which I'll still add myself. I got the fruit and veggie base, and the whole grains with fruit and veggie base. They have other blends that include meat, but I like the control of choosing my own meat. I'm so happy! I finally found something that Malcolm doesn't just tolerate, but seemingly thrives on. We're on day 6 and his skin is clear. I just did a poop-scoop and I see that he's got good, normal poops for the first time in as long as I can remember. And no gas. All this to say, I know that he feels good - which makes me feel great. 🥹 If you've had a Boxer (or other belly-issue-prone breed), you know my joy in this moment! I wanted to shout it from the rooftops, maybe spare you some of the research efforts if this kind of situation finds its way into your life. I wish I had known about it, if it even existed, when Basil was struggling. Check out Honest Kitchen if your dog or cat can't seen to find a food that they do well with. It's not inexpensive, but scaled to a 30-day supply and compared to Rx food for the same number of days, it's at least 50% less expensive than the cheapest bag I've tried. And it's tasty, he loves eating again 🥹🥹🥹

We’ve used honest kitchen bases for years. I know the box design changed, but my dogs also turned their nose up at this batch. Did the recipe change too?

My pup loves this topper !! I mix it with my homemade stews , to last longer ! 1 large tablespoon swells to 1/2 cup wet .Plus it’s packed full of veggies and vitamins ( you can see the tiny pieces of carrots ) I’m impressed and he gobbles it up !! You won’t be disappointed in this dog food !! Well priced for the amount you receive !! Good product…plus he likes all flavors . MJB .

I have an 18 pound yorkipoo that developed severe pancreatitis. After treatment which cost a fortune, my vet said that my dog could never again eat food that had more than 7% fat and the food had to be grained based, since studies have shown that grain free food has a tendency to create heart issues in dogs. I tried several low fat dog foods the vet recommended as well as others and she would not eat any of them. Finally I decided to see if Honest Kitchen had a solution since I had fed it to my last yorkipoo with great success. All their meat based foods were too high in fat--until I discovered this whole grain base mix which has 5% fat. I mixed it with chicken breast and finally my yorkipoo ate. My dog has been doing great on this food. I make it one week with chicken breast, one week with turkey breast and in between sometimes half a scrambled egg and some no salt albacore tuna, though this is more fattening, so I watch her bowel movements closely to make certain they are all right. I highly recommend trying this mix if you have a dog with pancreatitis. Though expensive, the base mix is way easier to feed than having to make it yourself and I know she's getting all the calcium and minerals she is supposed to have, which is so much easier than trying to figure it out yourself.

Sorry but my dog became very sick & vomiting from this. I bought this to supplement the home cooked food that I make for my dogs’ meals. Wonder if it’s saw dust. I hardly saw any oats. The warm water never got absorbed by the rolled oats which is strange. Sticking to human grade Trader Joe’s organic rolled oats. My dog never gets sick from Trader Joe’s rolled oats.

My dog has been on this mix for over 2 years and he absolutely loves it. We mix it with cooked beef and the bowl is always licked clean and he is somewhat picky. Cheaper than most dog food subscriptions. Ingredients are 10/10

My dogs love it and lick their bowls clean. Very nutritious and they are thriving on this base mix. I add a protein and Omega oil.

Low crude fat, tolerable due to significant allergies, easy to make, easy to travel with, add water and a protein your dog can eat and done. I've been using The Honest Kitchen Dog food for many years.

I use this food as a base and add in fresh meat to have a complete diet. This company has a awesome customer service hotline for any questions related to specific diets, and ways to mix the food.
