Would this still work with a regular lamp with lamp shade?

It will fit, but, the shade might take away some of the light

I don't really know the answer. They were used for cacti and there was never any trouble with them in the room. Sorry I can't tell you exactly. One source I checked reported: Only LEDs, which produce no ultraviolet light, completely protect fabrics and art from fading. Even if you are using LED sources, however, most rooms have windows that allow natural light in during the day. This will cause fabrics and art to fade over time.
