The Perfect Storm

VERY GOOD MOVIE. WORTH WATCHING.

The Perfect Storm is one of those movies that sticks with you. It is based on a true story, which makes it even more powerful. The cast is great. George Clooney and Mark Wahlberg really carry the film, and you feel connected to the crew as they fight through the storm. The special effects still hold up and the storm scenes are intense and stressful in the best way. You can really feel the danger and desperation as things unfold. It is emotional, a little heartbreaking, and definitely not a light watch, but it is beautifully done. If you like survival stories or movies based on real events, this one is worth watching. Just be ready for a rough ride.

Such a good movie. I lived in a tiny fishing village out on the Aleutian Chain in Alaska for 15yrs… It’s a different world and I miss it. This movie is heartbreaking but it’s so good. The book was excellent

THE PERFECT STORM is a nice, heart-warming story based on the real lives of six east coast fishermen who risked their lives aboard the strong sea barring vessel, the Andrea Gail. Its fate is not a mystery and the tale of these men's demise is no surprise - but their journey, kinship and determination makes their lives meaningful and poignant. Simply put, three storm-fronts came clashing together back in 1991 in a way that no storm ever has in the history of recorded history. The story is about these six men and the people their lives touched. The captain played by George Clooney and his shipmates played by Mark Wahlberg (Planet of The Apes remake, Boogie Nights), William Fichtner (Armageddon, Contact, Pearl Harbor), Bob Gunton (Patch Adams, Ace Ventura: When Natures Calls), John C. Reilly (The new Chicago feature, Magnolia, Boogie Nights), Allen Payne (New Jack City, Vampire In Brooklyn) and John Hawkes (Rush Hour, Scary Movie). Set out a last desperate run to get some fish, save their reputations and make some money before the fishing season is over. They all give wonderful performances. There are also incredible performances give by Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio (The Abyss, Robin Hood: Prince Of The Stars) as a fellow ship captain and the only female fishing ship captain, Diane Lane (Rumble Fish, Chaplin) as the perfect sensitive girlfriend of Mark Wahlberg and Karen Allen (Raiders Of The Lost Ark, Starman) as a fellow boat rider caught in the heart of `The Perfect Storm'. Directed by Wolfgang Peterson (Air Force One, Outbreak, In The Line Of Fire) this film is artistically done and respectful of the lives and community these events took place in. Over 10,000 people were lost to the seas over 400 years. The visual effects are incredible and amazing and James Horner's score is very heartfelt and powerful. He did compliment this mightier monster they called `The Perfect Storm'. The DVD extras include three commentaries by the director, special effects people and the writer of the novel that this film is based on. The documentary on the making of the film is detailed and insightful too! I loved this movie a lot. You should too. (9-202)

What can I say, living on the coast of Maine I frequently watch fishing boats depart and return from their days at sea. So, the story line is real. The acting is believable, with the slight exception of 'Boston Accents' of Mark Wahlberg, who is an Massachusetts Native, and Diane Lane, who I hate to find any fault with. I've always been a fan of hers, he, this movie made me a convert. Of course, much creative liberty has been used, but very well. I've visited the Crow's Nest, the bar portrayed in the movie, which is tiny and not directly on the wharf, nevertheless, the movie captured the essence of the local 'dive'. Thankfully the owners didn't take advantage and capitalize on the venue, such as the Cheers inspired watering hole in neighboring Boston. The score by James Horner is haunting, and is now my second fave Horner Score, Braveheart will always be 1st! George Clooney, I forgot he was George Clooney as he captured the role. The supporting cast all hold their own. Looking for a movie to watch on a storm driven, windswept, gray day, this is it! You will feel a part of the story and you, too, will await for a safe return.

This is a great example of a meh story line with great actors that make it a very good film.

Great movie for young seafarers, hopefully they won't face the huge wave on their journey
