I've found that these get a significantly better bite on a pipe. In my opinion, the only reason to use a pipe wrench over these is when cramped quarters don't allow the handles of these pliers space to work. Also, the comparison has to be between similar sized tools. The 12" knipex cobra is not comparable to a 24" pipe wrench, but the 22" knipex is. **Q: Are these made in Germany?** A: All Knipex tools are manufactured in Germany. **Q: Do they work in both directions in the same orientation, or would I have to turn them over?** A: They need to be turned over to get the benefit of the tool design. They are an assymetric set of pliers; The torque of rotation around the object being clamped and turned reqauires that the force applied by the handles works in the direction which which keeps the plier closed -- in the lesser angle (about 135 deg) made by the jaws with the handle. **Q: Are these light in weight ?
