Soft Matte Lip Cream, Lightweight Liquid Lipstick - Berlin (Medium Warm Brown)

NYX makes some pretty great makeup, and their Soft Matte Lip Creme is one of my favorites. It smells like vanilla cake, has a smooth, creamy consistency that applies like butter to my lips, and the color is rich and pigmented. A little goes a long way with this! It has a slight stickiness to it until it dries down (which takes a minute or two), and it really does act like an early version of a lip stain that I keep coming back to. The color is vibrant, its transfer-proof (with the exception of oil-based foods like an oily soup), and it lasts for hours on my once I apply it. The doe foot applicator makes for easy, precise application, and even as color slow wears off throughout the day, it leaves a soft, muted stain behind on my lips. I’m a huge fan.

I wanted lip cream that is not shiny, but that looks natural and has a natural nude-like color. This is the closest I've ever found to my natural lip color, that can hide discolorations and even out the color, with a very slightly but still very natural-looking pink tint. I am East Asian for reference, with closer to an average lighter-skinned South East Asian skintone (I am actually half southern Chinese and half southern Japanese/Okinawan), so I am not that pale, but not tanned either, and have bit of yellow undertone (Sephora's "best skin ever" concealer color is 12Y). The first pic (with the hat) is with just the Athena color lip cream and lightly-applied concealer. The second pic (without hat) is with the Athena color lip cream in gradient with a redder lipstick on the inner lips and full face of heavier-applied concealer. I like that it dries fast, so I don't have to wait long to apply another coat or other lip stuff on top. But it does smudge still, not as much as average lipstick, but it will such as if you drink with a straw, there will be a little smudging, but less than average. It does not last me a full day, but it is easy to apply and lasts at least for some hours, which is enough for most shorter outings. You should bring it with you if you go somewhere, if you want to reapply it to last longer. I also like that, despite that it dries fast after applying, it isn't drying to the lip skin. It balances my lip moisture level to whatever it was when I applied it. In the first pic with the hat, I did put a little bit of medicated lip balm under it before putting on the lip cream. I don't wear makeup much in general, so it's unlikely I will run out any time soon, but if I do, I will buy this again for sure. I hope it will still be for sale by then.

The color applied was not what I expected - a brighter, cotton candyish pink that's far more of a statement hue versus the more subtle or classic colors I tend to wear. On me, it looks a bit clownish but others might find it fun. It applies easily and has just a bit of slip to it when so many matte formulations are more drying. Not bad, just not sure how much I'll wear it.

I bought this in Antwerp, Milan, & San Paulo. I've attached a photo of all colors after application, and then I wore Antwerp today to see how it looked dried & throughout the day. Upon application, the color has a sheen to it, but the sheen goes away as it dries. It definitely doesn't have the orange tint to it that it appears it might in the pictures. It takes about 20 minutes to dry enough to not wear off when you kiss the back of your hand, but I'd give it closer to an hour before drinking or eating, and especially if you plan on some serious smochin' haha It is a bit drying, so use some sort of barrier before applying it. Most us chap stick, but I use Purlisse Lip Nourisher and when I took it off my lips felt fine. I lick my lips a lot, and around the 3 hour mark it started to fade for me. I did drink a cup of coffee after giving it an hour or so to dry completely. By 5 hours the edges of my lips were fine while closer to the crease it has faded. I didn't eat any solid foods between application & the 5 hour mark, but I did have (as mentioned before) the coffee, and then I also drank a shake. If you don't mind it fading a bit but still looking fine, I would reapply every 4 hours, especially if you drink & eat in that time frame. If you want it to look just like it does once it is first dried, I would reapply more towards the 3 hour mark, if not, sooner. It definitely lasts longer than your average lipstick, and I will 100% be buying more colors as time goes on.

I don’t like the soft matte nearly as much as I like the gloss of this brand (Nyx butter gloss). Of course it’s an entirely different look. The butter gloss with sparkles is super pretty, very moisturizing, has color payoff depending on the color (I love it in the brown color and keep it attached to my zipper in my bag for easy access). As far as these mattes though, I tried them in a couple of colors and feel like I’m better off buying a matte lipstick in the traditional bullet packaging for a matte look. (I like Revlon and Maybelline’s mattes. Milani has some nice mattes but they are a bit thicker feeling to me. And for higher end I like Urban Decay and Nars. The NARS matte lipstick pencils - the chunky ones are very good mattes and worth the price). Nyx soft matte just isn’t great for me. I do wholeheartedly recommend this brand. Several of their products are truly outstanding. I think you just have to try different ones, look up reviews (not from here but google them) with photos or video swatches to find out which ones work for your desired look, skin tone and type.

Perfect color, Nyx always has the best lippies. This is very long lasting as well. I do recommend.

The color looks way different in person than in the listing. This color is Antwerp SMLC05. It’s a fabulous lipstick tho, everything about it!

shade looks so pretty. and has a soft and light texture which doesnt feels heavy on lips. so comfortable to wear and doesnt makes my lip so dry. In winter use lipbalm under it

Très bonne couleur pour les peaux mattes /olives. Et tient bien pour le coup ! Même sans crayon la couleur match bien avec la peau ! J'adore ! En plus l'odeur est agréable et la texture aussi je trouve après c'est un peu sec mais c'est normal pour un rouge à lèvre matte qui tient bien.
