Speakers look as good as they sound.
I came upon these speakers by accident. I could say that destiny brought me to them but i won't go there. Simply a happy accident. In Feb. I logged into Amazon looking for some powered speakers to use with my TV. I had both Klipsch Pro Media and Bose Companion II in the past and expected I'd end up with one or the other. However, I wanted to check out what else was available in that price range as I hadn't checked out powered speakers in a while. I'm not an audiophile but I think I have a pretty good ear and wanted the best I could get in my price range. I've found that good speakers can make a pretty big difference when you are on a tight budget. As I was browsing I saw that Amazon was promoting a speaker by an outfit called Edifier, a name that I had not heard before. So I looked them over and they compared well with the others I was considering. One thing I really like about Amazon is the questions/answers and customer reviews provided in the product info. I always read at least some of both just to get an idea of what others are saying. I've found this info to be helpful when I'm not familiar with a product or the company selling it. The reviews for this product, the R1280T, over the top positive and other than folks that received a defective product, what issues people had seemed minor or subjective. The people not throwing down 4 ad 5 star reviews were still upbeat about the general quality of these speakers. I read all of the reviews and rechecked the specs. Then I went and found reviews of these speakers on the web and again everything was very positive. I hadn't seen this sort of overwhelmingly positive reaction to a product ... I guess ever. I made the decision to throw the dice, take a chance, and buy them. And they were every bit as good as everyone as said. They worked great with my TV and sounded better to me than the other speakers I'd owned before. To say that I was pleased is the understatement of the year. This finally brings me to the Edifier R2000DB. I had been considering putting together a modest system to listen to music on. I was just using a DVD running through my TV but wanted better sound quality. When I got the R1280Ts' I got the idea to upgrade the speaker system and forego the receiver/speaker system I'd been considering. I went to the Edifier web site and checked out their bookshelf speakers. The 1280's were the bottom of this particular line. I knew that I was on the right track. I compared specs and features along with price and finally settled on the R2000DB. I liked the next model up but was not able to make it work with my budget. So I ordered the R2000DB and received them last Friday. Everything was well packed for shipment and ready to go right out of the box. The R2000DB came in cherry or piano black. I chose the black and these are d**n fine looking speakers. The front is slightly angeled back and combined with the glossy black finish gives them a sort of elegant look. The powered speaker connects with the passive one with a 10' heavy gauge cord with a pin connector. There are controls on the back for volume, treble and bass. And connections for optical. 3.5mm to rca and rca to rca. All cords are supplied and while a person might want to upgrade these, it isn't necessary and IMO the fact that everything needed to make these speakers work right out of the box is included is a nice perk. Set up takes me maybe 5 min. and am ready to listen. The included remote control is small but simple to use. Off/on, mute, volume up and down, inputs for optical, lines 1 & 2 and Bluetooth and classic and dynamic mode. I hooked the speakers to the optical out on my TV and fired up the DVD player. I had received a copy of the Hoodu Gurus Blow Your Cool cd at the same time as the speakers so it went on first. With the controls on the back set to mimimum I raised the volume as far as I thought prudent. These play loud. No distortion percieved at any level and the bass boomed as if with a small subwoofer. The bass probably won't satisfy the hard core bass fan it's more than enough for most people. I live in a small 2 bdrm apt, maybe 900-1000 sq ft. and my listening area is approx. 13' x 10'. These speakers fill this room at any volume and sound fine back in my bedroom even at a normal listening level. The amps in the speakers deliver 60 watts per channel and have enough built in to allow me to not need a separate amp/receiver. I played several cds' and dvd audio discs mainly roots rock, acoustic, bluegrass and blues. Since my exposure to classical music comes mostly from old Warner Bros. cartoons I didn't have much to test classical except a DVD audio of the Moody Blues, Days of Future Past. Which sounded just fine, thank you. Lastly I checked out the bluetooth. Speakers connected and paired easily with my phone and though the sound wasn't as good as with the connected device, it was good enough, kinda like the difference between a stand alone radio and a cd played through a stereo system. I'm thinking that I can improve the sound a little by tweaking the audio on the source, but if a person can afford it the next model up has a codec that provides cd quality sound w/bluetooth. This is a tradeoff I was aware of and opted for. Overall I'm thrilled with quality of these speakers and would recommend them or any Edifier bookshelf speaker to anyone looking for a high quality, versitile speaker system at what amounts to a bargain price for what you get. Happy accident or destiny, I'm more than satisfied with this purchase.

Ears, Edified.
Can I give ten stars? Did a ton of research looking for an upgrade to my 2022 SaiYin bookshelf speakers, which were always adequate but never amazing. This ticked all the boxes: optical input, separate bass and treble dials, wide frequency response range, serious wattage, studio monitor quality. I was able to unbox and set them up in about 15 minutes, no snags. Just make sure you don't lose the tiny remote, it seems to be the only way to change inputs (and if I had any criticism, that would be it -- it took me a minute to figure out how to switch to optical). I love the heavy duty cord that connects the speakers -- it's a genuine socket connection of tremendous length (16+ feet!), no more futzing with red and white wires under lever clamps. I suppose some might also begrudge the tilt of the top surface -- you can't rest anything on it (but of course that would be unadvisable with any serious speakers). I actually like the angle, it's just about perfectly directed at my ears when situated on either side of my computer monitor. The sound is crazy good. I have been running through a variety of sample songs (21 Pilots, Andrew Belle, Coldplay, Aurora... WHOA!), and I am hearing details I never heard before. It's almost like being at a concert the way different sounds play across the audio field (left/right, up/down, near/far, crescendo/decrescendo), giving a three dimensional aspect to the aural experience. Low frequencies have a warm, genuine resonance without too much thump. Mids are incredibly clear, it's almost as if the vocalist is sitting right in front of you. I happen to be a treble fiend, and this satisfies all the cravings: highs are incredibly crisp, sharp and clear without a hint of tinny or brittle. I mean, this is about as good as it gets. If you love your music, get ready to love it all over again, even more.

Great set of speakers with multi source capabilities.
Seven years... Yup, I've had these for 7 years now and I never thought to do a review. I guess I've been so happy with these over the years that I never thought of a single complaint. I use these every day for a few hours a day in my office and I've become so used to them that I don't even think about them. These are great speakers, the sound quality is great for the size and the type of connection, great value for the money (I got them for $250). The connection is reliable, a single press of a button and they connect w/out any issues. The volume is really good. They look great and don't look cheap. Easy to change between sources too. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a good set of compact speakers for a room. Keep in mind that they must be connected via cable between them, so wherever you put them, plan accordingly so that cable is hidden from view.

Absolutely love these. I was a little unsure as I was reading a lot of reviews saying they are a bit bass heavy. However, I don't find that the case. I find these the be rather well balanced. These totally bring a whole new feeling to music and sound, no joke. The sound is so full and rich, it's immersive. They can get a little boomy if you turn the bass up on the rear of the speaker. But, you really don't need to for normal listening. Initial experience is amazing. Using a lot of hi-fi audio equipment in my life, and high end automotive audio gear. I can definitely say these totally sound way more expensive than they are. Being a bit of an older model, they still pack a heck of a punch, and for the price you definitely cannot go wrong. The build quality is amazing, they feel solid and well built, no issues with hiss or crackling. And they get ear piercingly loud if you want. If you're looking for a really good sounding set of powered bookshelf speakers, with decent connectivity I do highly recommend these. Using these near-field, on my desk, the sound staging is delicious. You're surrounded with sound, even though it's only a 2.0 setup. I have no desire to add a woofer right now, as these can hit the bass pretty good in a smaller room. Definitely give these a high consideration if you're looking to spend around this amount. You will not be disappointed.

For me its perfectly balanced. Bass is powerful but does not overpower the mids. Great quality!

Firstly edifier is one amazing brand. The quality of their speakers is one class above! These speakers are no less. I had a edifier R1280Ts already connected to my laptop. Although that speaker was pretty good, I wanted more deep bass and I didn't want to buy a T5 subwoofer as the sub level bass would disturb the neighbors and my parents. I wanted a fairly powerful speaker which could produce good bass without sub woofer. Thats when i came across R2000DB. After a lot of research I finally ordered it and it was definitely a big upgrade from 42 watts to 120 watts. The bass was punchy and right as expected. The highs were very clear compared to my previous speaker. Sub woofer is definitely not needed for most of the songs according to me. Sound quality i must say is next level 👌. I really dont know how to express that feel. When u listen to songs that are mixed and mastered well, you'll have a immersive experience as if you are listening through a expensive headphones. Dynamic EQ on this speaker definitely works to create a immersive experience. Overall these speakers are some other level! I'm fully happy with these speakers.
