It padding is about an inch thick and pretty sturdy. I had bought another case before this because I liked the looks and the price. Turned out the case was bigger that it should have been, the material was flimsy, and the padding was soft and thin. This new Yamaha case is my new "go to" case. The fit is perfect. The padding is about an inch thick all the way around and firm, too. I should have spent the extra money in the beginning and saved the money on buying the second case which I am no longer using. Pros: The fit is excellent for my Yamaha CGS102A Half-Size Classical Guitar and overall size is small due to that great fit The padding is thick and firm and the case holds it's shape even when empty It has an external pocket that fits my thin 3 ring binder of music It has shoulder straps, handles, and an extra handle that you can use to hang it from a hook Cons: Nothing. Would be nice: A couple color options to give it some individualization/personality would be great An third pocket to separate out small things like tuner batteries, picks and spare strings would be good to add I searched high and low for a hard case made for my guitar and couldn't find one, but this case is so good I am okay with that.
