It works just fine. I can use the same filters as my Kalita 102 at home. This one is for keeping at work. If it gets taken or broken it's cheap to replace. But it works just as good as my ceramic one at home. Just as easy to use and if someone drops it the thing isn't going to shatter all over the floor.

I'll admit it, I'm one of the world's most finicky coffee lovers. I usually have just one large mug of coffee each morning, and it's got to be perfect. I just bought two of these RED ones for use at home and to bring along when we travel. Have been using the Melitta single cup drip cones for about 18 years. Started with their first design that had the little handle, three holes in the base, and a solid flange base -- so you couldn't see the level of coffee in your cup as it ran through the cone. Then progressed to the newer "one hole" for drip through style, still with the little handle and the solid flange base, which made better tasting coffee due to the greater infusion time between hot water and ground coffee. I first grabbed this newer style Melitta filter cone (in black) when I saw a it on sale at a local grocer. LIKE IT WAY BETTER than their older designs!!! The flange is slightly wider and is molded as an integral piece along with the cone, making it sturdier than the old design, and the opening on either side of the flange lets you keep an eye on the coffee level in the mug until it's right where you want it -- NO MORE coffee floods like we sometimes had with the old, solid flange style. The wider flange on this newest style fits over our slightly large coffee mugs (like those sold at Starbucks) securely, where the old design often would not and would sit tipped as we poured boiling hot water, so it is much more convenient and safer for our uses. There is still the single drip hole, and the coffee we make with it tastes great. Makes it easy to bring and enjoy our own coffee wherever and whenever we travel, which we always do. The only downside of the RED model is that it shows coffee dust whereas the BLACK one I originally had always appears pristinely clean. But the RED color is great for travel, since it really stands out.

I am someone who doesn't like Keurig because of the amount of plastic that gets heated in the process - and I don't like the flavor. This pour-through cone is perfect for making a single cup of coffee that tastes delicious. It's very easy to use, and I think the coffee is far superior to a Keurig. I have a regular drip-style coffee maker that can make up to 12 cups. But since I drink mostly decaf and my husband drinks regular, it makes it really easy for us to both have a good cup of coffee without making full pots of coffee. The Melitta cone easily fits on top of my coffee cups and mugs, and it uses standard Melitta size 2 filter (or we can cut a size 4 with scissors), We buy the unbleached paper filters or the bamboo ones, which I feel are both healthier. I do have a gold mesh filter, and I find it doesn't work well with this Melitta cone because the coffee gets gritty - probably because I'm filling up the cone and it's spilling the grinds over the top of the gold filter. So, I recommend using paper filters. Finally, it's easy to clean - I put it on the top shelf of the dishwasher and it's simple as could be. I've used ceramic Melitta filters and I think this is so much easier because it's not so fragile. I highly recommend!
