I paired them with a set of Crank Brothers Mallet Enduro pedals. Perfect combination since I like to ride both clipless and flats on the same ride. I Love being clipped on the long climbs and smooth descents, while riding them as flats while on the technical climbs and downhills. These shoes are perfectly versatile for that purpose. The are surprisingly light weight, but very solidly built. I have struck my foot multiple times on rocks during descents; the shoes provide great protection. Not a scratch when I expected an injury. The velcro strap is great for both keeping those laces in and keeping those shoes extra tight on your feet when you are cranking hard clipped in. The bottom is amazingly grippy. I have ridden these with my flat pedals before, even with the cleat still installed. Worked great! I love the versatility. I can wear them into a restaurant after a ride, no problems. They are comfortable. They do not feel like soccer cleats like some bike shoes. They look great and are very comfortable. When I walk, the cleat will barely be noticeable. It will sometimes lightly touch the ground as I bend the sole of my shoes while walking. I feel comfortable tip toeing on my hard wood floors with these on. I wouldn't go skidding across the floor with them, even though it wouldn't likely do any damage, my wife would not be pleased. I was reluctant about spending $135-150 on a pair of good MTB shoes, but wow, was it worth it. I used to ride on flat pedals using vans. Only now do I know what I was missing. Good shoes are one of the first upgrades a mountain biker should make. I ride 4 to 5 times a week, probably 30 miles/wk, and when I wear these out, I will be buying another pair. I was out on a slow mtb trail ride and clipped a root with my left pedal during the downstroke of the crank. The clipless assembly on the bottom of the shoe completely snapped off the shoe with my clip still attached. I don't think the plastic that holds the clips to the shoes are very robust. I am returning the shoes.Original review:Great grippy, firm sole. Warm in cold weather. Cleats can be positioned further back than other shoes. Much better than plastic soled shoes for traversing forest obstacles when dismounted because of the MI6 rubber soles. 14's are true to size and I can still wear winter socks. Doesn't come with SPD cleats. Comes with red and black laces.
