## Overview

Briwax Liming Wax is an 8-ounce specialty wood wax designed to produce a distinctive white-grained finish. Ideal for open-grain, sealed, or stained wood, it also softens vivid colors into pastel shades, creating a unique painted-and-stripped aesthetic favored by design professionals and trendsetters alike.

## Description

A smooth paste formulation which produces a white grained finish to relatively open grained timber. The liming wax can be applied directly onto bare wood, or will work on sealed or stained timber. Some woods will benefit from opening the grain with a wire brush before application. The Liming Wax should be overcoated with BRIWAX for a more durable finish.

Review: AMAZING PRODUCT - This product is amazing and it was so easy to apply. 1. Clean cabinets 2. I used an old washcloth, poked my finger in the cloth and then into the wax. Use a very small amount. 3. Rub it on the cabinet doors, inside and outside, and on the framing. I rubbed in with the grain, then against the grain, then with the grain. 4. Let sit for 3 to 5 minutes and lightly wipe away any extra. My cabinets were the 20 year old oak yellow/orangeish color. I tried sanding and not sanding and the results were the same. So, I did not sand anywhere. I did purchase the round brush, but found using a cloth wrapped around my index finger was easier. I now have a whole new look to my kitchen for about $25. I did this over 3 days.....but I could have started in the morning and finished late that night, but my arm did get tired. Takes some elbow grease but so worth it. I still have about 1/4 of the can left......better find another project!! My pix are before, during and complete.
Review: A great option for achieving your desired look! - I'm an amateur weekend DIYer and have now used liming wax for two different projects. I find that it is very forgiving and great for covering imperfections/mistakes. I especially love that it's a buildable product so you can achieve many different looks by either buffing more away or layering more product on. Things to be aware of are: drying/curing time, strong fumes (similar to paint), practicing your technique with various tools before attempting your project and being realistic about your finished look. This product is great at settling into "cracks" or grooves of furniture however it will shrink as it cures and could flake over time. Pictured is a plank wall we recently did in our nursery. The spacing between the boards wasn't as consistent as we would have hoped and you could see some of the original paint peaking through. It took about 2 cans of liming wax, 6ish hours and a lot of elbow grease to do the whole wall but we were happy with the finished product. I have not used another brand of liming wax but like the usability of this product.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: I have dark oak stained cabinets, I want to lighten then , will the briwax work?**
A: Well, this material works, based on its accumulation in open pores in the wood. You apply the material and then buff most of it off. The material that accumulates in those pores and little depressions doesn't buff off. It tends to give oak a very interesting grizzled look. However, the effectiveness of the material depends on the availability of those little depressions in the wood. If those are filled with stain and varnish, the build-up will be limited and the effect will be diminished. The material does not provide homogeneously smooth coverage. Try it in an in-obvious place first.

**Q: Has anyone used this to lighten yellow/orange oak?**
A: Dark oak. It gives it a white wash look

**Q: How much furniture would 1 can cover? I'm refinishing a 90inchx 30 inch table with leg. Does it need regular Briwax coat after lime wax?**
A: I've used it on a couple of smaller projects including a dresser. What I will say is that I'm not a professional and I done use it often. That said, depending on the grain of the wood, you'll use more or less of the product. I'd gamble one can will suffice for your project. You will need to seal it with another wax so yes you'd need regular wax as a top coat.

**Q: What do you use to apply the liming wax?**
A: I bought a stiple brush amazon. You do want to spend the money on a decent brush because you don’t want the bristles to fall off and get in the wax

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great stuff - lots of fun to be creative with ...
*by J***N on December 7, 2016*

Great stuff - lots of fun to be creative with for different looks. For example, I wanted an aged/antique look for some pine wainscoting for my home office remodel. I'd purchased a pile of T&G 1x6 pine boards from a lumber yard that had left them out to weather in the sun for an extended period. They were grayish and a little dirty on the roughsawn side - a great starting point. I knocked down the fibers just a bit with some 220 paper and then applied the liming wax with a rag in blotches across the boards not worrying about evenness. The trick was the next step - I used a very common plastic bristle brush (maybe 2"x6" -- the kind you'd clean your tires with or scrub your floors with in the old days) to spread and even out the wax through all of the nocks, crannies, and knots. It worked great and it was quite fast! And you don't get splinters using the brush like you would if you'd used a rag. Caution: if you use a lot of the wax at once over a large surface area there will be a strong petroleum odor until it dries/hardens/outgasses because it is a wax. I went through 4 cans of the Liming wax and also used it on the drawer fronts of a built-in unit to match the wainscoting. Experiment on test pieces for different looks - much depends on the underlying wood (i.e. maple would be boring while the open pores of oak would hold the wax well - like a pickeling stain does). On rough sawn wood, it's terrific.
