ShooAway Fly Repellent - Black

I live in Hawaii in a new development that was once grazing land. There are many, many, many flies. Most of us in Hawaii enjoy entertaining outdoors, but with all the flies divebombing our food, it hasn't been enjoyable. I bought 2 of these ShooAways. I thought they were a bit expensive, but when we used them, I have to say they are worth every penny and then some. We were able to eat our meal almost completely fly-free. A couple flies came into the food area, but we're shooed away quickly and easily. We are accustomed to flies that are very persistent. But what really sold me on the product was seeing the flies just outside the "zone" of the ShooAways. It was as if there was an invisible force field keeping the flies away from the food table. There were still many flies flying crazily about, but they stayed away from the ShooFlys and the food. I was so happy to finally enjoy a meal outdoors without fighting the multitude of flies. I strongly recommend this product.

I am very happy with my purchase of the ShooAway. I bought it as a chemical free option for the flies we often deal with when camping. We took it camping last weekend and were extremely pleased with how well it worked. Even when we put it near items that flies normally can't resist, like a trash can full of used paper plates and other food garbage, the flies did not want to come near! The only suggestion I would have is for maybe a shorter model as well that would keep flies away from a lower vantage point- we did notice some flies that would approach from underneath (for example when the ShooAway was on a picnic table) would occasionally not be deterred. Even still we loved the product and I have already ordered another so we can cover more area next time.

I bought three of these, and that pretty discouraged flies from our table of eight people on a hot evening. You can't have many more than that, or there won't be room for other tall items on the table. Flies will not get right under them, so having one for every two people or so works well, but our table wasn't big enough to space four of them out down the middle. They are awfully expensive for what you get, and they are fragile. Don't leave them sitting where kids can get hold of them. It helped with not having to constantly brush them away.

Summary: In the run up to the 4th of July I was desperately looking for another solution to keep flies away whilst grilling and eating outdoors. We already have multiple mosquito devices set up, but everything else we have tried fail to deter the average fly that can smell a piece of steak from 2 miles away. This was purchased on June 29th and it arrived July 1st, in time for the holiday. I knew in advance that it would not come with batteries so already had those on hand. The external Amazon packaging was in perfect order. The actual box housing the ShooAway was made of very thin flimsy cardboard. My first impression of the device was not great. It is extremely lightweight, very easy to knock over and made from cheap black plastic that was already scratched from the cardboard packaging. We placed the ShooAway in the center of the table near all the food. I would say there was a reduction in the number of flies, and we certainly saw more perched on the edge of the table or on chairs watching the ShooAway from a distance. The problem was the ShooAway kept dying on us. We were using brand new batteries, but the rotating blades kept slowing down and stopping. If you manually “whizzed” them around, the whole thing came back to life for a while, but after a few more minutes of running, they would slow down and stop again. Pros: • Reduction in number of flies near food • Quiet • Rotating Blades are soft and stop instantly if they come in to contact with anything Cons: • Flies still sit on the outskirts of where the ShooAway is • Device is very lightweight and easy to knock over • Rotating blades get bored and just stop • ShooAway is made from a very cheap plastic prone to scratches • Expensive for what it is About my purchase: I purchased this item for $27.08 with my own money from River Colony Trading but fulfilled by Amazon with free Prime Shipping. I heavily rely on Amazon reviews of other people when making my own purchases and therefore any review I write is absolutely honest with the hope it helps others make a decision.

I was soooooo excited to discover this product, although hesitant about paying the high price....decided to give it a shot! I quickly realized i was gonna need AT LEAST 3 more to cover our 8ft outdoor serving table in order for this product to be efficient, which was okay with me (i was just gonna wait until i discovered a deal). We used it 3hrs once a week for 5 months...when i flipped it upside down to replace the batteries, the fan part (which is connected to the motor....fell 6inches on the table)! I attempted to reassemble the parts, but the motor no longer worked!!!! I don't understand....if the batteries are located on the bottom, why can i not turn it upside down? How was i suppose to change the batteries? I hope the company responds, because this item was NEVER abused & i feel it should be replaced

I first experienced the Shooaway device while dining on the patio of Joe's on the Green at Poipu Beach in Kauai, Hawaii. The waiter just plopped one down in the middle of our table which was on the patio overlooking the 18th green. After we realized what it was, I thought, "what a simple, yet terrific idea to keep the flies away from my hamburger". After returning from vacation to the States, I did a Google search for the fantastic, helicopter-looking device and finally found it. I immediately ordered 2 Shooaways and had them working away 2 days later. I note from other reviews that the newly-formed Shooaway company graciously comp'ed some users for writing a review to help the marketing effort. I am writing simply to brag about the nice device I discovered in Kauai, paid in full (a bargain at any price!) and now have it working miracles here in central California. It's not too often I have a chance to convey my thanks and congratulations to a young business with a fabulous product. Keep up the good work. My only complaint, the Shooaway didn't help my golf score at all!! :~}

Great product for fly control, but be careful when you invert the unit as the Fan motor will drop out. Forget trying to push the wires back in. Remove the two screws on the bottom and pull the wires back gently and replace the motor. If you are aggressive with this method then you will be re-soldering the wires to the motor. Strongly suggest using some electrical tape or some duct tape wrapped around the motor and housing stand to eliminate the motor coming out of the unit when you invert it. Otherwise this product does a great job of keeping the flies off your food!

Love the concept but the second blade is hard to install and the red power wire is so thin it just popped off and now needs to be sautered back on.

I ordered two pieces and when I received the package one of the item was broken! The other one after few days drop-off gently on the same place I mean on the table not the floor and got broken immediately. The machine part in the middle came out.

色々なサイトを探して残り1点というのを見つけて購入。届いた品物は展示品だったのではないかな、と思いました。 箱に入っていましたが、箱の空け口はパカパカで折れており、色褪せつぶれてました。そして中身の商品はホコリをかぶっていました。 販売を予定してなかった展示品を箱に入れ送ってきたのかな、という印象。 使用前に全体のホコリを拭き取りました。 箱はヨレヨレだったので廃棄。 商品自体は問題なく使えたので評価は3 展示品だったものだとしても、せめて商品は拭いてから送って欲しかったです。

Amazing product! I had problems initially as it wasn't working properly but they rang me up personally and swiftly replaced the product. Really helps keep flies away at our dinner table which is great as they've been horrendous this summer. Great company to deal with and a brainwave of a product.

We use it all the time when eating outside, might need two if it’s a larger table. Keeps the flies and the wasps away.
