does this flash work with the camera on auto setting ?

Yes it does, but because it's a "manual" flash, it won't talk with your camera's electronics you have to set the flash intensity yourself. This only sounds difficult. After a few dozen shots, you'll figure out how it works and get it right the first time every time. I'd recommend starting at 1/4 for an indoor shot and adjust it from there.
