CURLSMITH - Curl Defining Styling Soufflé - Vegan Medium Hold Styling Gel

Perfect gel cast hold that doesn't leave my hair heavy, hard, or looking like it is wet. My hair has never looked so shiny or bouncy, it does such a great job at getting the initial cast I need for my hair to dry and is probably the best gel I have used in terms of breaking the cast and being left with a soft bouncy curl. In the past with other gels I have struggled to break the cast and this gel does not make it difficult at all. After using this gel I went from only lasting 3-4 days to easily almost 8-9 with great looking curls and almost no retouches. The application feels gross at first on your hands, it almost feels like alcohol and very drying on the hands/hair but does not actually have a drying affecting on the hair. If anything it feels like my hair is more hydrated and voluminous after using it. No strong smells. Overall very happy with the gel! You don't have to use a lot either. —— Coming back one YEAR later to say the 16 oz bottle I purchased on July 31st 2024 has just ran out on June 7th 2025. This stuff is amazing! I have a mix of all of the Type 2 curls. I have fine hair that usually frizzes out of control. I used to live somewhere where soft water was a thing, now I live somewhere where it’s only hard water. This curlsmith soufflé is the best product I’ve ever used for my hair. 1. A little goes a long way, LESS IS MORE. 2. It MUST be applied to sopping wet hair - in the shower or re-wet over the sink. I starting using more of this product because I changed up my routine in the morning - and my hair started to look thin and like I had 4 curls on my head. Randomly one day I decided to stop using this, but as my hair started to frizz out of control, I was like ok I’ll just re-wet and use a little to control the frizz and I what I ended up with was the nicest, softest, fuss-free curls. For fine hair, the key really is to use 50% less than you think you need then go from there. And your hair must be sopping wet. With these 2 tricks, I don’t even get a cast or have to crunch, it’s just perfect as soon as it’s dried - with all of my separate curls, a bunch of volume, and no frizz! I have tried Innersense curl cream and I can’t get it to do what this product does, so for me this product wins. Though I do prefer Innersense shampoo and conditioner…

Absolutely the best product die my curly hair I have used to date. Created great curls without buildup or stiffness after its dried. My curls hold for days. I never expect a product to work as it states but this one definitely does

I use the CurlSmith products. They have taught me good techniques to revive my curls and combat frizz. These products are necessary to hold onto that curl. I have several of their products and wanted to try this one. Opening the jar it looks like a clear jelly. It has a light, pleasant smell. I found the product hard to work with. It was hard to get out of the jar because it was like a runny jelly, so it kept running off my fingers. I finally made a scoop with my fingers and got a little product out. I applied it as directed. My hands were very sticky after working with this, but it washed off easily. My hair dried with a hard cast, so I scrunched it as directed to soften it up. It worked great to hold my curls it helped create. It was still holding the next day. If it were easier to get out of the jar I would give it that extra star.

I love this !! A🐰 finally found a product that can curl my hair without getting stiff or hard or flaky. I have fine thin wavy curly hair and I love this because it gives me value and defines my curls. It looks good if you let it air dry or if you use a diffuser.

I’m confident this product would fulfill holding curl, but the scent was so unattractive and lingering that I initiated a return within four hours of trial. Please consider making unscented “natural” products.

I read the reviews and gave it a try. Why the hell not? I've spent a FORTUNE over the years looking for the "one" product that actually works. This is it! It has a pleasant smell, very mild, and its not sticky at all, a nice kind of slick texture. I wash, then spray my hair wet again, apply leave in conditioner & squish, then I apply the styling souffle by Curlsmith and again squish, squish and curl shapes start. I let is mostly air dry and then squish curls w/my dryer and then an under the hair shake out. OMG... my curls are defined and it really takes down the frizz level. AND.... throughout the day I have to walk between different locations and usually come back a bit frizzy. I just get my hands wet, slide them over my curls, and the frizz is gone and stays gone!!! I've always done this to reactivate the product and it worked for a while but frizzed up again. Not now... the curls are nicely shaped, defined and pretty much frizz free. I HIGHLY recommend you just buy the small size to try it out. I know not every product works with everyones curl type, but this one is just amazing and I've tried soooooooooooooooo many... serum, mousse, cream, gel and more. If you've got curly hair I know you have too. I'd start with this styling souffle. I just got the spray curl reactivator and morning just hand dampened my hair, sprayed it in and added a very light touch of the styling souffle and curls look pretty damn good without the air fluff, etc. Enjoy my curly sisters and brothers!!!

Smells really sent-sational but still not perfumey. Light & fruity, rosy. Delish! I actually have the softest, cleanest feeling hair with spirals now. Doesn’t feel heavy or crispy at all. As an adult I am normally a straight/wavy girl but was born with curly hair. Here I used the product following a scrunch with a reflex serum (by another brand,) along with a bounce curl type brush for curl definition. (No mousse) and I was left with a nice glossy & bouncy result the very first time. I have noted that it has all of those great nourishing ingredients like rosemary, sage, babassu oil, shea butter, castor oil, and aloe vera. (But c’mon, how is it so featherweight still?) 🥇 This product gets my vote! Try it out.

This deserves more than 5 stars tbh. I have lots of wavy, fine strands of hair. My wave is probably 2a but is very inconsistent and hard to give body to. Using this as per the instructions gives me consistent and resilient waves that are more like 2b. Best piece of advice I can give: DO NOT BE AFRAID OF THE CAST. This product is SUPPOSED to make your curls stiff and crispy; with just 10 minutes of scrunching out when your hair is dry, the cast will disappear. Think of it like a plaster-cast that helps form the shape of the curls beneath that you then break away. I have very fine hair that gets greasy super quickly, but this cast comes out perfectly in my hair with no lingering product. You would never even know it had been there. Even more amazingly — yesterday I went walking on a windy beach, slept on my hair during the night, and my waves were still perfect the next day. This is unheard of. I have never liked my hair, it is messy and frizzy and fine and the waves seem random and can't be easily tamed. Honestly this gives me the hair I've always wanted. I can't find a single fault with it. Worth the price 100%, I promise.
