I wouldn't say it is waterproof, but water resistant. From what I understand, not as water resistant as the Lunar though. I've had minor spills on top with no issues. If you plan on using a scale on a drip tray where it might be exposed to more direct moisture from a group head or steam wand, I would go with the Lunar. Plus the Lunar's thinness works better on a drip tray.

Does it have a timer that automatically starts when the first drop hits the cup?
