Why does it smell like burning metal when I use it? It toasts bread well, but has a horrible burning metal odor

I usually find thst new toasters do this. When I got this one, it was no different. I usually turn the toaster on without any toast in it in order to burn off the smell. After a couple of times doing this, the smell was gone. I love this toaster

The “bagel” function adjusts time, but still toasts both sides of the item in the slot. says so right in the manual. how is this a bagel function??

Thank you for contacting Oster®. We appreciate you reaching out to us. In bagel function, both heat will still produce heat thought the other side is on low heat. Have a nice day!

Is this toaster capable of toasting longer bread, like Aunt Millie's 12-grain, without having to flip it over, if you toast it in a vertical position?

No, I think you would have to toast it twice.

Will this toaster just toast one slice of bread?

Thank you for asking! This toaster toasts both side of the bread. Have a nice day!
