## Description

The Bernette 35 is a mechanical model without computer control. It ensures full stitch width and length variability along with 60 stitch functions achievable through it's 23 built - in stitch designs. It provides a one step buttonhole and feed drop facility for lovely motion embroidery and quilting. With the 3 knobs you can adjust stitch width, length as well as select the designs. There's a automatic needle threader which allows you to thread your upper thread automatically. A manual thread cutter is provided on the side. The b35 comes standard with 7 presser feet soles.

**Q: Does this machine sew stretch fabrics.  Lycra)spandex?**
A: According to the instruction book it does stretch fabrics.  It does have a very nice stretch stitch.  The machine is new to me.  I tried it on a very stretchy piece of fabric and it worked well.  I plan to use the stretch stitch to hem a pair of stretchy cargo pants.  I love the machine.  I had a Bernina for about 40 years and am very happy with their Bernette.   However, if you plan to do a lot of embroidery, you may want the more expensive model.  Hope this helps.

**Q: Does this machine sew through thick material like 4 to 6 layers of denim?**
A: No. You need a sailmakers (see Sail-Rite machines) heavy duty machine for that. This one is for lightweight fabrics and household use.

**Q: Quilting? Does anyone use this machine?**
A: I have made 3 quilts on this machine.     The largest was full size.     I use a 90/14 needle, adjust the tension to lower it just a bit, use the darning foot, and I use a meander stitch.     It quilts through the cotton fabric, plus cotton batting, plus flannel on the back.     It does this beautifully.     I'm very pleased.

**Q: How does this machine handle thicker fabrics (home dec)?**
A: Of all the options in this price range, this is probably NOT the one for thicker fabric work. I'd recommend the HD3000 Janome, as it was designed to handle heavier needle strokes and has a thicker needle-to-plate distance. If you want a home machine to do heavy stuff, get the Janome HD (The Singer HD's are weak in comparison, and often skip stitches under heavy load)

Good machine just a draw back which you need to manually set width and length and there are automatic machines where these things are taken care of. Rest all good.
